Authorities believe Klein and Gesart Hoxha, 20, conspired to traffic the girl for sexual exploitation, following a months-long investigation that involved law enforcement from two different states.
Hoxha is also facing many criminal charges for his role in the alleged scheme, though it’s not clear where (or if) the accused adults are being held in police custody.
Adrienne Klein, Gesart Hoxha Facing Criminal Charges
According to local outlet Fox 5 Atlanta, the charges were filed following a lengthy investigation that began on September 7, when authorities in Texas contacted Gwinnett County (Georgia) Police Department’s Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.
“Our agency was contacted by the Arlington Police Department in Texas regarding an investigation started in Texas that included incidents in Gwinnett,” Georgia officials said in a statement.
Soon after, reports indicate, Gwinnett police executed a search warrant on Hoxha’s apartment in Buford, some 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.
There, detectives said they found explicit photos of Klein’s 12-year-old daughter, as well as text message conversations between Hoxha and the child, some of which were explicit in nature, according to reports. Police also uncovered “large sums of cash,” though it’s not clear how the money ties into the case, if at all.
Based on the evidence uncovered during their search, Gwinnett County authorities believe that Adrienne Klein paid to have her daughter flown from Texas to Atlanta. When she arrived, investigators claim, Hoxha put her up in a hotel where he sexually assaulted the child.
Klein lives in Gulf Breeze, Florida, and it’s not clear why her daughter was allegedly flown out of Texas. Police did not say how she and Hoxha knew each other, and the extent to which they communicated about the 12-year-old’s trip to Georgia.
It’s also unknown what evidence emerged regarding Klein’s daughter during the investigation by Arlington (Texas) police.
Alleged Traffickers Face Felony Charges
Klein was charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes and cruelty to children in the second degree — both felonies — according to reports in Georgia.
Authorities in two states filed criminal charges against 20-year-old Hoxha.
In Georgia, he faces one count of child molestation, another count of statutory rape, and “employing or using a minor to engage in or assist a person in sexually explicit conduct for a visual medium,” all of which are felonies.
Hoxha was also charged with enticement under the same statute as Klein.
The molestation charge carries up to 20 years in state prison, as does the statutory rape charge, according to one legal source. If convicted of the “sexually explicit conduct” charge, Hoxha could be sentenced to a prison term between five and 20 years and could be made to pay up to $100,000 in fines.
In Texas, Hoxha faces one count with “indecency with a child by sexual contact, another felony. That charge could land him a 20-year prison sentence if convicted, another legal source claims.
It was not immediately clear on Thursday where Klein and Hoxha were booked following their arrest.
