Ali Abulaban, a Tiktok star known as JinnKid, has been charged with murdering his estranged wife and a male friend of hers. Abulaban pled not guilty to all charges on Monday and police officers are continuing with their investigation.
The young man is being charged with two counts of murder along with a series of special circumstance charges which could allow the prosecution to seek the death penalty if he is found guilty.
Abulaban was arraigned in San Diego Superior Court earlier in the week, and with his arraignment came a bunch of secrets about the crime.
Court documents from that arraignment showed that before Ali Abulaban allegedly murdered two people, he went to his estranged wife’s home, trashed it while she was gone, and placed a listening device in his daughter’s iPad. That device allowed the TikTok star to hear his wife and her friend talking before he decided to go over and kill them.
The victims have been identified as Ana Abulaban, 28, and her friend Rayburn Cadenas Barron, 29.
According to Abulaban, he believed his wife was cheating on him. Prosecutors believe Barron was just a friend. His wife had kicked her husband out of their home on October 18 after multiple allegations of domestic violence.
The shooting took place last Thursday around 3 p.m. at the wife’s apartment which is located on the 35th floor of the Spire San Diego high-rise, on Island Avenue in East Village. After hearing his wife laughing and talking with Barron on the listening device, Abulaban rushed to his former apartment and allegedly shot the couple multiple times.
Ana Abulaban received one shot to the head while Barron got three shots to the chest.
After Abulaban allegedly shot his estranged wife, he went to go pick up his daughter from school and then later called police and confessed. Police pulled his car over and arrested him. His 5-year-old daughter was still in the car at the time.
The man is being held without bail and the judge also issued a protection order against him that prohibits him from having any contact with his daughter.
Ali Abulaban became very popular on TikTok for his comedy videos and his impersonations of Tony Montana, a character from the 1983 Scarface movie. His wife made appearances in many of his videos. Fans of the TikTok star have taken to the app and expressed their disbelief at the tragic deaths of Abulaban’s wife and friend.
One fan took to Twitter and said, “I can’t believe that JinnKid guy “allegedly” killed his wife… been following him for so long on Instagram. he was talented too, sad to see what he did, and unexpected too…”
Other fans are pointing out that Ana Abulaban, who was also on TikTok, filled her feed with happy relationship videos.
“Anyone know who that Jinnkid is? His wife was crazy beautiful and out of pure insecurity he killed her man!!! This shit is fucked uppppppppp and if you look at her TikTok it’s nothing but “happy” relationship videos they had a daughter /:” said another Twitter user.
Some critics are calling for JinnKid’s profile to be removed from Tiktok following the murder allegations.
