Angela Amezcua thought she was done with reality television dating shows after unsuccessful stints on The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise, but that’s when Brendan Morgan and the new Bachelor in Paradise Canada spinoff came knocking.

The 32-year-old model from South Carolina was connected to Brendan Morgan, 30-year-old former Edmonton Elks Canadian football player and yoga instructor in June when the show first started filming, and they were the only couple to stay together after weeks of shooting.

“I just had this feeling… something was like ‘You need to do this,'” Angela Amezcua told the Toronto Star on Monday after the spin-off’s finale. “I (didn’t) know what was going to come from it, but I can say that I’m definitely glad that I did.”

“I’m actually surprised that we are the only couple left standing,” Angela said. “We obviously had kind of like a bumpy ride, but it feels really good knowing it was worth it and it did translate into real life.”

The Canadian version took place on a lakeside Ontario resort and featured 27 members of both the American and Canadian BIP casts. Despite only one couple leaving together, the show has already been renewed for another season.

“And it’s finally here… The Final Rose 🌹,” Angela wrote on Instagram. “Been waiting a good 6 months to get this secret off our chests 🙌🏼 I’ve never met anyone like you B, and I’m not sure I would have if it weren’t for @bachparadiseca ! Ready for all the adventures life has in store for us 🙏🏼♥️ #BachelorInParadiseCA”

Brendan Morgan went on another date with a fellow contestant during the show, but he didn’t kiss her. “At the end of the day, I mean, it’s a dating show,” he told viewers angry at him for going on the date, adding that he was also happy with the way things ended up.

“All that matters is that Ang is here smiling,” he gushed.

So, if it was such a happy ending, why aren’t Angela Amezcua and Brendan Morgan engaged?

Though an engagement has been the traditional end of the reality dating series since the series began, many “successful” couples have recently left the show without putting a ring on it, especially for the quick turnaround of Bachelor in Paradise.

“It’s quite a short period of time to get engaged with someone,” Brendan Morgan said, echoing the concerns of many a contestants’ parents over the years. “Being the person who’s proposing, it would have been irresponsible for me to do something like that.”

“I felt like, OK, I think there’s a foundation here that we have, let’s see how it holds up in the real world,” he revealed.

Angela was also happy that the show didn’t end in an engagement, stating that she takes getting engaged “very, very seriously.”

She previously teased fans on Instagram writing, “Will there be a ring on this finger by the end of @bachparadiseca ?! 💍👀♥️ Make sure you tune in starting tomorrow night.”

The South Carolina model had previously been linked to football player Clay Harbor, but the two never got engaged. Dating for nearly seven months back in 2018 to 2019, she had plans to move in with Clay, according to Us Weekly, but the big day never occurred. Fans began to speculate that they had split up after they stopped posting photos together, later confirming the breakup on social media.

“I want to do it one time,” Angela said about getting engaged. “That’s a huge commitment to make in my eyes … so we just want to do things the right way.”

Maybe the third time’s the charm!
