Anne Hathaway spent the last few years focusing on her kids and husband. But it’s time for a big comeback, and Amazon’s Solos is the opportunity she was waiting for.
The trailer hit on Monday, showcasing the strife of seven individuals as they combat loneliness in a world that is utterly distant from anybody and anything.
The series shows a striking resemblance to the world of quarantine, and Anne Hathaway is jumping back on the scene after some time away from the spotlight. Though she has been in a few hits throughout the pandemic, such as Locked Down and The Witches, Anne has neglected blockbuster hits and moved towards a more modern approach to screen time.
Solos is another example of Anne Hathaway giving the small screen a chance as streaming services rise and theatrical releases take a monumental dip. Increasingly, more and more leading actresses are taking to the small screen. Reese Witherspoon paved the way with Big Little Lies. Then Nicole Kidman followed suit with The Undoing. And who can forget Julia Roberts in Homecoming? TV filming schedules are often ideal for moms with young children because they don’t have to be away from their families for several months.
Anne Hathaway doesn’t share a lot of private information about her family. But she did throw a curveball on Sunday when she posted an adorable picture of her and her mother, posing for a Mother’s Day celebration. “Happy Mother’s Day to Queen Kate, the Cutest!” She captioned the post. “You deserve everything in the world, including a better camera than the one I used to take this photo.”
A few months ago, Anne revealed the name of her second baby who she had with her husband, Adam Schulman. She delivered baby number two back in 2019, but it took a while for the actress to open up about her private life. In her appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, the actress revealed her second son’s name is Jack.
The Les Miserables star was pregnant while filming The Witches, and she joked that her son is technically “all over that performance.” Now the baby is almost a year-and-a-half, and Anne is navigating raising two sons who bicker and wrestle as any brothers would.
She loves spending time with her adorable boys, but she needs balance. And she’s hoping that Solos will provide that opportunity. While there hasn’t been a lot revealed about the show, the cast is star-studded. Joining Anne is Helen Mirren, Anthony Mackie, Constance Wu, and the beloved Morgan Freeman (among others).
Solos will follow seven unique characters as they cope with the future and come to terms with isolation – sound anything like Covid-19? Despite the struggles faced during such isolation, the series will reveal that everyone is connected through the human experience.
Anne Hathaway will be playing Leah in the first episode set to release Friday, May 21.
