Princess Beatrice picked a strange day to announce her pregnancy and some people wonder if it’s a dig at Meghan Markle. The royal baby announcement arrived alongside Prince Harry and Meghan’s third anniversary, with some saying that the Princess’s choice was no coincidence.
She and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli, a multi-millionaire property developer, tied the knot last July. This will be Beatrice’s first baby, and the royal child is set to arrive in the fall. “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year,” a Buckingham Palace statement explained. “The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
The baby will be Queen Elizabeth’s 12th great-grandchild and the announcement is surely welcome by the Queen and the rest of the Royal family – except two. Many followers of the Royal Family have speculated that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren’t too happy that Princess Beatrice has stolen the spotlight on their anniversary. Some even suggested that it was on purpose.
In 2018, Meghan Markle announced her pregnancy at Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie’s wedding. The media jumped on the Meghan’s baby news, which famously overshadowed the nuptials. Royal sources said that Meghan told the Queen, Prince Philip, her father-in-law Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Eugenie, and Jack before the October 12 wedding.
Eugenie and Sarah Ferguson were not happy about the big declaration, and Prince Harry was utterly embarrassed, according to The Sun. On Wednesday, fans were adamant that Beatrice announced her pregnancy in an attempt to get back at Meghan and the Prince.
“I don’t think it’s accidentally that Princess Beatrice announced her pregnancy on Prince Harry & Meghan’s third anniversary,” One fan commented on social media. Another wrote that “I have to wonder why did the palace decide to announce Beatrice’s baby news today. On the Prince and Princess Henry of wales anniversary, how petty. Congrats though Beatrice.”
A royal expert admitted that the timing was “not a simple oversight.” Prince Beatrice would likely try to overshadow Meghan’s anniversary, especially with their complicated history. Her actions have been deemed “petty” by some, with others claiming that even if it was on purpose, it wasn’t that bad. At least, not compared to Meghan’s announcement during Eugenie’s wedding.
“People crying about Princess Beatrice and Edo announcing their baby news today (on Harry and Meghan’s wedding anniversary),” One person posted. “Your point? Harry and Meghan literally announced their pregnancy to the family at [Eugenie’s] wedding. ON THE WEDDING DAY. Congrats Bea.”
This wouldn’t be the first piece of drama that continues to plague the royal family. With tensions high after Prince Harry’s choice to leave the family and the bombshell Oprah interview, there is likely a lot of animosity.
