Bob Saget was found dead in an Orlando Ritz-Carlton hotel room Sunday night. The beloved actor was 65. Police are investigating the actor’s passing and a cause of death has not been determined. According to Orlando police there were no signs of foul play or drug use.
Officers were called to the Ritz-Carlton around 4 p.m. Sunday after reports of an “unresponsive man,” in a hotel room. The man was later identified as Bob Saget. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orlando Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
After the discovery of the body, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office took to Twitter and confirmed the death. They said, “Earlier today, deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room. The man was identified as Robert Saget & pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case.”
Bob Saget was in Florida because he was touring for his comedy show, Bob Saget: I Don’t Do Negative Tour. The actor had shows in Orlando on Friday and Ponte Vedra Beach on Saturday. He was scheduled to perform in West Palm Beach, Fl. at the end of the month.
After his Saturday set, Bob took to Instagram and thanked his fans for being an amazing audience. He said, “Really nice audience. Lots of positivity. Happened last night in Orlando last night at the Hard Rock Live too. Very appreciative and fun audiences. Thanks again to @comediantimwilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a two-hour set tonight. I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it.”
While he made his start as a stand-up comedian, Bob Saget became famous for his role of Danny Tanner on the show Full House. The sitcom followed Tanner as a single dad of three girls who had to deal with the ups and downs of growing up. The show was a hit in the ’80s and ’90s, and the actor touched a lot of people with his comedy and laughter.
He recently reprised his role of Danny Tanner in the 2020 remake of Full House, called Fuller House.
Following his death, fellow Full House alum John Stamos mourned his friend on Twitter. He said, “I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby.”
Along with his role as Danny Tanner, Bob Saget was also the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos from 1989 to 1997, and he voiced an older Ted for the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. In 2020, he started his own podcast called Bob Saget’s Here For You.
While he was successful in television, comedy was always his passion. On stage, the comedian was known for his raunchy comedy. Since his death, many fans have remembered the 65-year-old for his ability to make people laugh.
Gilbert Gottfried said, “Still in shock. I just spoke with Bob a few days ago. We stayed on the phone as usual making each other laugh. RIP to friend, comedian & fellow Aristocrat Bob Saget.
In a 2013 interview, the comedian was asked to define his comedy style and he said, “I am basically just a nine-year-old boy that evolved.”
Between his work in television, Bob Saget continued to put out comedy specials and go on tour. Many of his comedic events raised money for the Scleroderma Research Foundation. Bob lost his sister to the disease in 1994.
For many people. Bob Saget was a fixture in their household and his comedy helped shape a whole generation. One fan wrote, “I, like most my age, grew up with Bob Saget. AFV and Full House were staples in my house – even my non-English speaking abuelos loved him. Then I grew up and got to know his comedy- and my god, he was hilarious.”
Bob Saget is survived by his wife, Kelly Rizzo, and three children.
