Brittany Cartwright’s weight gain during pregnancy has not been the easiest thing to deal with in the last few months. Especially because many of her co-stars, who gave birth around the same time she did, didn’t have such huge bumps!

Brittany and her husband Jax Taylor welcomed their son in March 2021, making pregnancy headlines along with three other co-stars, including Jax Taylor’s ex, Stassi Schroeder.

Brittany spoke candidly about the mean comments she’s received during her pregnancy: “I was being heavily compared to Stassi [Schroeder] and Scheana [Shay] and Lala. … I’ve always been bigger than them, but my weight has always fluctuated and stuff. So it was just hard to see all those comments about my weight stuff when I was healthy and the baby was healthy.”

Amid the picture-perfect pregnancies that her co-stars have experienced, Brittany gave a voice to mothers who experience change in their bodies and body image when having a baby. In November 2020, Brittany responded to criticism about her pregnancy weight gain with a long body-positive caption on Instagram.

She showed off her tummy proudly in a mirror selfie and wrote: “I am so proud of my body for creating my son. I have had days where I let negative comments from strangers get me down, but WHY!? I am growing a perfect and healthy human being who I have only dreamed of my entire life.” She continues on to say, “To all you other Mommy to be’s and mommies in general YOU ARE KILLING IT, don’t let opinions of others get you down, you will be the best mother to your beautiful baby just like me!”

Despite her public self-love, Brittany admitted that behind the scenes she “definitely cried a lot.” Most of her pregnancy took place during quarantine. She often found herself scrolling through social media comments far more than she would have if she were out and about in a pre-Covid-19 world.

Brittany isn’t the only Pump Rules star to talk about the challenges women face as mothers. After the birth of her own son in March, Stassi Schroeder wrote on Instagram, “Becoming a parent is literally the best, most f–king overwhelming, magical, chaotic, incredible thing that’s ever happened to me.”

The same month Stassi announced her pregnancy (June 2020), Scheana Shay suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. Scheana opened up about the loss that occurred during her co-stars’ baby boom. She said: “It was a beautiful miracle, and if it worked out, we would’ve been f–king overjoyed. But unfortunately, it didn’t.” In the weeks following the miscarriage, Scheana shared her experience publicly to help other women who may have lost their babies.

After a year-long hiatus, the Vanderpump Rules cast plans to return to the screen by late 2021 or early 2022. Jax Taylor and his wife Brittany Cartwright have made the decision to leave the show so that they can “focus on our growing family,” but many fans wonder if Brittany’s negative experience on social media played a part.

When asked about their resignation from the show, Brittany said, “Having a kid changes your perspective on how much you want to put out there. People are mean, and they mom-shame and everything else. I would be scared for that part.”
