Chrissy Teigen got candid about her buccal fat removal in a recent Instagram story, explaining to her fans that her slimmer jawline is all thanks to Dr. Diamond. She didn’t say when she got the plastic surgery or why, but she did seem very impressed with the results. Her cheeks seemed flat as a pancake, giving her jawline razor-sharp edges.
While the Instagram story has since expired, the video was secured by The Cosmetic Lane, which posted the clip to Twitter over the weekend. The account captioned the post, writing: “Chrissy Teigen takes to Instagram to reveal she’s had Buccal Fat Removal done by Dr. Jason Diamond.”
In the video, Chrissy Teigen admitted that her thinner face is not the product of working out. Instead, it was the result of plastic surgery at the hands of celebrity surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond. “I did that Dr. Diamond buccal fat removal thing here,” she claimed to her fans. She proceeded to turn right and left, showing off her protruding cheekbones
Chrissy added that “since I quit drinking, I’m really seeing the results.” She also admitted to her fans that “I like it. Yeah, I did it, what?”
Over her original Instagram story, Chrissy Teigen wrote: “No shame in my game,” letting her fans know that she’s fully comfortable with her decision. She also tagged Dr. Diamond in the post.
While celebrities have been getting buccal fat removals left and right, many fans are confused about what the surgery even is. According to the official plastic surgery website, buccal fat removal is meant to thin the cheeks, essentially hollowing the face just below the cheekbones. The procedure is specifically targeted at those who don’t like fatter, fuller cheeks – even though it is considered youthful.
The plastic surgeon will then remove the buccal fat pad in the area where the cheek is most hollow. And while the results are often desirable – with Chrissy Teigen a prime example – there are still risks involved. For some, the benefits outweigh the risks, however, like any surgery, there are possible complications to think about.
Risks include anesthesia complications, possible asymmetry in the face, bleeding, and infection, among others. However, Dr. Frank Agullo, a notable plastic surgeon, claimed the risks are extremely rare. He said that if done by a certified specialist, buccal fat removal rarely results in the specified risks. Careful doctors will give antibiotics to avoid infection and will take other precautions as well.
He did admit that “rare and avoidable complications are nerve injuries, which can cause facial asymmetry and damage to the parotid duct.” He explained that with a professional plastic surgeon experienced with buccal fat removal, however, these risks are minimized.
He went on to explain the craze, saying that “many people are inspired by Angelina Jolie’s jawline and cheek contour. Buccal fat pad removal is one of the ways to obtain this look. It helps change a round face into a more triangular and slender aesthetically pleasing shape.”
He continued, claiming that the procedure, which doesn’t take longer than 30 minutes, “can create the shadow effect often created with makeup between the cheek and the jawline. The results are often subtle and can be mimicked by pursing your lips and slightly sucking in your cheeks.”
Quelling concerns about rapid aging rumors, Dr. Agullo admitted that those issues are not an issue if the right candidate – someone with chubby, round, and full cheeks – is operated on. The plastic surgeon also went into pricing, saying that he charges between $3,000 and $4,000. He did say that the surgery can be done for a lower cost, with some dentists even doing buccal fat removal for certain patients.
As for Chrissy Teigen, she’s in love with her results and went with the premium option. Dr. Jason Diamond is a “plastic surgeon to the stars,” according to his website. He even works with big-name celebs like Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick.
