Christina McNown, the wife of one-time Chicago Bears quarterback Cade McNown, was arrested for theft, according to a report from TMZ issued early on Tuesday.

Unnamed sources told the website that Christina, a mother of four, was accused of stealing “luxury goods” from Sydney Holland, a film producer best known for dating the late media magnate Sumner Redstone.

TMZ reported that McNown was taken into police custody after a police investigation determined she had “allegedly lifted” high-end fashion items from Holland. According to the outlet, the quarterback’s wife is facing four felony theft charges and is due in court some time next year.

Christina McNown Accused of Stealing from Sydney Holland

In an article which at one point today was removed from its website, TMZ reported midday Tuesday that McNown was arrested after police said she stole “hundreds of thousands of dollars in designer goods” from Holland.

According to archival copies of the report, McNown was employed by Holland as “a trusted assistant and stylist” for more than a decade before her apparent arrest. Through this position, the outlet reported, McNown had “easy access” to Holland’s “personal belongings.”

Citing anonymous law enforcement sources, TMZ wrote that Holland noticed several personal belongings had turned up missing “here and there” over a period of months. The website said she “connect[ed] the dots to McNown.”

The report also alleges that Holland also noticed some of her missing belongings “pop up” for sale in internet marketplaces.

TMZ claimed that a “lengthy investigation […] back in October” found the mother of four may have stolen “Holland’s purses, clothing and jewelry.” While the article claims McNown was arrested after the investigation was concluded, it does not say when (or where) she was taken into police custody. TMZ also published a blurry, black-and-white mug shot with the story that appears to depict McNown, though the photo is not dated.

McNown Could Face Prison Time, According to Reports

The outlet reported that Christina McNown was charged with four counts of felony grand theft, and is due back in court for her arraignment in February.

The bio on McNown’s now-private Instagram page lists her primary state of residence as California, and Sydney Holland was living in California as recently as last October when her partner Sumner Redstone died.

If both women currently live in California, McNown could face up to 12 years in prison and up to $40,000 in fines, if convicted on all four felony grand theft charges.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that the mother of four did not respond to requests for comment.

McNown was picked up 12th overall in the 1999 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears. The lefty started for most of his first two years in the Windy City, but ended up throwing more interceptions (19) than touchdowns (16) during his tenure at Solider Field.

Cade McNown was later traded to the Miami Dolphins, whose roster he graced until 2002, when he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers during the off-season, the Post reported. He was released from the Bay Area squad during the 2003 off-season after sustaining a shoulder injury, and was never signed by an NFL team again.
