After Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke tested positive for Covid-19, many viewers are concerned that her partner, Cody Rigsby, could be off DWTS 2021 for good.
Cody Rigsby, a possible frontrunner and Peloton instructor, was gearing up for his second appearance on the dance floor on Monday night. ABC has yet to comment if Cody is also off DWTS, or if Cheryl will be replaced so that he can continue in the competition.
It seems for now that the Peloton instructor has not tested positive for Covid-19. Local ABC 7 New York believes that Cody Rigsby will dance Monday night with one of the DWTS “alternate pros.”
“I feel so bad for Cody,” Cheryl Burke said in her Instagram video. “I feel like I’m letting him down.”
“I just feel like s**t, to be quite honest,” she continued. “And it’s so overwhelming because it’s Sunday, and the show’s tomorrow. I figured I should let you guys know since I’ve been as open and as real and vulnerable as I could be here. I just hope I didn’t spread it.”
According to CDC guidelines, Burke will have to quarantine for at least 10 days in make sure that she can’t spread the virus to other dancers or crew members on DWTS.
“For those of you who don’t think COVID is a real thing, it’s f*****g real, dude,” she said. “I’ve been ordered to stay home. I don’t know what to say. I’ll be in bed. God, I can’t believe this happened.”
“Not only do I feel scared and at a loss for words, I do feel run-down a little bit,” Burke shared. “And I feel really sad, because I don’t want to let Cody down. Our freaking salsa was so good!”
Performing on the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke danced the tango to “Physical” by Dua Lipa. They scored a 24 out of 40 from judges Bruno Tonioli, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Len Goodman.
Dressed in all pink, Cody Rigsby began the performance on a workout bike, referring to his career as a peloton instructor, before meeting Cheryl on the dance floor.
Cody has yet to comment on his dance partner’s Covid-19 diagnosis, or his future tenure in the competition.
Cody Rigsby told USA Today that, before being a fitness instructor, his first job was as a professional dancer in New York City, and that there is “an advantage there.” He has been a backup dancer in the past for Katy Perry, Pitbull, and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“It definitely has given me some skills,” he said. “I have rhythm most of the time.”
Rising in popularity during the pandemic, Cody Rigsby got a lot of attention as people turned to fitness instructors. There were huge Peloton sales for home exercise bikes. “I got to reap that success, and I’m very, very grateful for that,” he said, although he wished his fame hadn’t come “while so many people were struggling.”
According to US Weekly, Cody Rigsby was homeless before he became a dancer and then a fitness instructor. But he now owns a $1.46 million penthouse in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“As someone who has experienced homelessness in my life, this is huge accomplishment that I’m so proud of,” he said. “Peloton and Dancing with the Stars collaborated to make the perfect schedule for me… Hopefully, it’ll last two and a half months, 10 weeks, and we’ll make it to the finale.”
