Colleen Alexander might have gotten the deal of a lifetime. The New York woman took to TikTok and claimed that she bought two real Banksy paintings for just $120. Was the mysterious street artist really in a New York subway station?

During the TikTok, which has currently has over 6.8K likes, Alexander said that she was taking the subway home at 14th Street and Eighth Avenue and came across some Banksy-style artwork in a pop-up art sale. She said there were signs that said “Cash or bitcoin; this is not a photo opportunity.”

Colleen Alexander decided to get onto her subway and head home. But something kept bugging her about that weird art show in the middle of the NYC subway.

“Something in me was like ‘Go back,’ so I literally got off my train, stopped at the first ATM I could find … and went back to the west side. I was just praying that it [the art sale] would still be there,” said the NYC woman.

The 26-year-old said in her video that the art sale was still there and so was a mysterious man wearing a black ski mask. The man didn’t speak, but did nod when asked if he was selling the art. Alexander allegedly paid $120 for two paintings.

Banksy has not confirmed if he was the one who sold her the paintings. Many of thoses who commented on the viral TikTok tagged the artist to try and get some answers.

The young woman said that she didn’t care if the paintings are real, she just can’t get over how much excitement she had after buying the artwork. She said, “Maybe I’m going to sound like an absolute idiot, but honestly, the value of this art, the way it’s making me feel right now, it might as well be a Banksy. This excitement and this hope … even if it’s not Banksy, all I want to say is thank you to whoever set this up. Thank you!”

If Alexander’s paintings are real, then they could be worth a fortune. The last Banksy painting to sell went for $25.4 million at auction. The artwork, called Love in the Bin, sold at a London auction house earlier this year. That was the highest selling price for a Banksy painting.

The Love in the Bin painting made history back in 2018, when it was originally sold as a painting called Girl With Balloon. During that auction the painting sold for $1.4 million and the moment it was purchased a shredder inside the frame activated and shredded half of the painting. Videos of the incident showed a shock crowd.

The street artist later confirmed on his Instagram that he shredded the painting and that the auction house had no idea that it was going to happen.

Selling artwork in a subway station wouldn’t be unusual for the artist. The unknown painter, who is based in London, has made a name for himself as an unusual artist known for his stunts. In 2013, the mysterious artist sold signed paintings for $60 in Central Park.

Three tourists bought some paintings from him and they were later estimated to be worth over $31K at the time. According to sources, many people didn’t buy paintings because they didn’t believe that the artwork was authentic.
