Conor McGregor seemingly punched Machine Gun Kelly on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs on Sunday night. The mixed martial artist insists he doesn’t fight “little vanilla boy rappers.” So now fans are scratching their heads wondering what happened.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Conor McGregor, 33, brushed off the incident at the MTV Video Music Awards Red Carpet, despite video of the event clearly showing how angry he was.

It’s unknown what ticked off either celebrity, but security had to pull the two apart as punches were flung while they were screaming at each other. Conor McGregor at one point even threw a whole drink in Machine Gun Kelly’s direction and had to be yanked away by security once again.

When asked about what happened to start the feud at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, rapper Machine Gun Kelly, 31, swatted the microphone out of the reporter’s hand.

Actress Megan Fox, who was Machine Gun Kelly’s date, told the reporter as she was being dragged off camera that, “We’re not allowed to say,” to which the reporter answered, “okay, okay.”

Speaking backstage with Entertainment Tonight about the scuffle, Conor McGregor walked back and down-played the incident, answering another question asking what happened with, “absolutely nothing.”

“He showed up, and I don’t know,” Conor McGregor said, “I don’t know the guy.”

But from video footage of the MMA star and MGT, who looked stunned by Conor McGregor’s actions, it is obvious that something sent him into a rage.

People claim that the MMA fighter had asked to take a photo with Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox, who denied the request, but neither party has confirmed that theory.

Although Conor clearly throws his drink at him, sources told Variety that Conor was actually tripped by Machine Gun Kelly’s security, who stopped to take a photo, which made him spill his water.

The source alleged that Conor yelled, “that f**king punk punched me,” after Machine Gun Kelly “sort of snarled” at Conor.

According to Page Six, however, Conor’s team is actually denying that the entire event ever even happened.

“Nothing happened with me, I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean,” Conor contested. “I certainly don’t fight little vanilla boy rappers. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.”

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox later walked the red carpet unharmed, and even took some PDA-filled photos showing off Megan’s sheer nude Mugler dress.

The two didn’t seem to have any prior beef coming into the VMAs red carpet, with Machine Gun Kelly even attending Conor’s UFC 260 fight back in March.

Machine Gun Kelly later performed at the VMAs, singing his song “Papercuts” with Travis Barker. Although the performance was scheduled for halfway through the show, a last-minute change pushed the song back to near the end of the broadcast.

Machine Gun Kelly’s representative has yet to comment on either the scuffle or the performance change, so it’s unknown if the two events are related.

Back in May, Conor McGregor was announced as one of Forbes’ highest-paid athletes, raking in over $180 million last year.

He has also commented on the rise of boxer Jake Paul, a former YouTube star who has dominated headlines after transitioning to a career in the ring. “Salivating,” Conor tweeted in response to the potential for the two fighters to face off.

The fight won’t be happening anytime soon, however, as he recently broke his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier. Conor McGregor’s been walking around with a cane ever since, and still was at the VMAs. But that didn’t stop him from throwing punches!
