Deanna Daughtry, the wife of singer Chris Daughtry, wrote on Instagram Friday that her daughter Hannah Price was not murdered. She slammed the rumors that have swirled since the 25-year-old was found dead last week.
The circumstances of Hannah Price’s death are still vague, but her mother said unequivocally that she was not murdered — and that such speculation is “making it worse for those of us who love her.”
“I lost my child and I’m having to now also deal with rumors and assumptions about her,” the 48-year-old mom wrote. ““The people who loved her are in pain and we are mourning they are not talking to the press, they are not spreading rumors and they sure as h— are not making this about themselves.”
Homicide Rumors Spread for Days
Hannah Price, Chris Daughtry’s stepdaughter and Deanna’s biological child from a previous relationship, was found dead in her Nashville home on Nov. 12. No official cause of death has been determined, though her mother wrote on Instagram that the 25 year old “sustained injuries that caused her death.”
Still, rumors of homicide have persisted since Price’s death became public knowledge. Citing a source “directly connected to the Daughtry family,” TMZ reported the day after the 25-year-old’s body was discovered that police told her family the death was being investigated as a homicide.
The homicide rumor spread across the celebrity news media more quickly than officials could dispel it. On Monday, the Fentress County District Attorney’s office told People magazine that no cause of death had yet been determined, and that reports suggesting Hannah Price was murdered were “premature and irresponsible.”
“Further, no one has been arrested pertaining to the death of Ms. Price,” the DA said, adding that the Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the 25-year-old’s sudden death.
But the DA’s statement did little to disrupt the narrative already taking shape on social media — that Hannah Price was murdered, and that Bobby Jolly was a suspect in the killing.
Deanna Daughtry Slams Rumors
On Instagram, Deanna Daughtry called the TMZ report an outright lie.
“We were not told that and never said that to anyone,” she wrote. “The day Hannah was found I shared some concerns I had with some people I know and said we won’t know anything for sure [until] after they complete the investigation.”
She continued: “Someone took that and went running with it or they talked to someone else who then made assumptions and went running to the press with it.”
Appearing to address the rumor that her daughter’s boyfriend was a suspect in her death, the 48-year-old mom said it was “wrong on every level” to accuse someone of murder “before all the facts are in.”
“If you have information that you feel the police should know about this, then tell them and let them do their job,” Deanna wrote.
Hannah Price and Bobby Jolly were arrested in April after police said the couple fired a gun at another car during a road rage incident. A warrant for Jolly’s arrest was issued when he failed to show up in court to answer the charges the week that Hannah died.
Deanna said those allegations don’t offer a full picture of who her daughter was.
“Hannah was on this earth with us for 25 years. there is so much more to her story than what you are reading,” she wrote in the emotional Instagram post. “Please stop making it worse for those of us who love her by spreading rumors and saying disgusting things about our family.”
