Desiree White may not have had her dream wedding after her husband’s Best Man got drunk and declared his love for her. But after that fateful night she’s never looked back. Divorcing her husband to live out her life with the best man (and her lifelong friend) Bryant, the 32-year-old bride is now sharing her romantic story.

Like something out of a rom-com movie, best man Bryant White got intoxicated at his friend’s Illinois wedding and poured his heart out in a speech right next to the groom, confessing his love for the bride.

“I remember the first moment I saw Desiree, I loved her. I fell in love with her. I knew she had to be mine. I thought she was the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen in my life,” she recalled him saying. “She’s the best person I’ve ever met. I’ve never met anyone like her. Then I found out she already had a boyfriend and I thought I needed to find out a way to get her, but then I met [White’s ex-husband] and we became friends.”

Desiree White told Kennedy News reporters that her and her former-husband’s jaws were on the floor as Bryant’s Best Man’s speech went on. Noticing that he just shared his feelings with over 200 wedding guests and the bride and groom, he quickly finished with a “‘love you both — congratulations,” before taking his seat once more.

“Everyone was kind of laughing — and then it got quiet,” Desiree White remembered. They were incredibly embarrassed at the time and that she had honestly never thought of Bryant in a romantic way before that night.

Desiree and Bryant met in high school, according to the couple, and remained platonic friends ever since. She had a boyfriend at the time – the man who would become her ex-husband – and the three of them developed a close bond over the years.

“They did everything together,” Desiree said of the friendship between Bryant and her ex.

She also recalled setting Bryant up on dates with other women, and that although none of the relationships worked out, she had never considered that he held any feelings for her since the three of them were so close.

“I’ve been on double dates with him and I always tell people I wouldn’t have ever dated the person he was then,” Desiree White said. “He had a lot of growing up to do [at the time]. I didn’t really look at him in that way.”

Everything changed the morning of her wedding, however, when she said that Bryant looked at her with such affection after seeing her in her bridal gown.

“I walked into the living room, right when I was done getting ready with my wedding dress on and my hair done. Bryant came into my parents’ house and froze and stared at me,” she told Kennedy News. “He said I looked beautiful. I’d never had a moment of him looking at me like that.”

Confessing his love later at the reception after he had pounded down a few, he spoke with her one on one on the dance floor and proceeded to ask her: “Why didn’t you ever give me a chance? I would have always taken care of you.”

A year later, Desiree White’s marriage began to fall apart due to her ex-husband’s “totally different lifestyle,” though the man’s name and situation was not revealed.

“When [my ex and I] broke up and divorced, I went through a depression and was really secluded myself. I just didn’t want to make an effort for anything,” she revealed. “[Bryant would] ask me to eat with him or hang out and watch a show. He was trying to be there for me.”

One day, the two shared “a good kiss,” and she became pregnant just a year later with their son Sawyer, who is now 9 years old. The couple got married in 2012 and now share four children together.

“We were always friends,” she said, “but when we were together [romantically], it was like nothing was hard to do anymore knowing we had each other.”
