Devin Ratray, known for playing older brother Buzz McCallister in Home Alone, was charged with domestic violence against his girlfriend. According to reports, the attack happened early December in Oklahoma City and police didn’t find any justified reason to arrest him after the attack.
Charges of domestic assault and battery by strangulation and domestic assault and battery were recently filed on Dec. 21 by Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Powers. Devin Ratray was arrested on Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. His bond was set to $25,000 and according to reports, he has already been released.
The actor denied all charges against him and said that his girlfriend changed her story after their argument. On Dec. 15, the Oklahoma Police Department said that they believed the case to be closed and that no future arrests would be made.
According to police reports, the domestic violence incident happened on Dec. 4 and 5. when the actor and his girlfriend were in Oklahoma City to appear at a Christmas convention. The girlfriend, whose name has not been released, told authorities, that Devin drank a whole bottle of wine and over 10 shots of alcohol when they were out to dinner.
While walking in the city, two women came up to Devin and asked for autographs. His girlfriend handed them two autographed cards. The former child actor apparently got angry at her for not charging the women for his signature.
She said that they got into an argument at the Coyote Ugly bar and the girlfriend left to go back to the Hyatt Place hotel. Devin Ratray stayed behind. When he got back to the hotel, he attacked his girlfriend and started strangling her.
The actor allegedly told her, “This is how you die,” before punching her in the face. She allegedly had to roll off the bed to get away from him.
Oklahoma Detective Joseph Burnett was called to the scene and wrote that the girlfriend “had trouble breathing while she was being strangled and while the defendant’s hand was over her mouth,” in his report.
The police report also said that when the girlfriend came back to the room to grab her things, Devin pushed her into a desk. The young woman suffered multiple injuries, including a sore right arm, bruises on her chest and under her left eye. She also had marks under her right eye and on her face.
According to reports, Devin’s girlfriend was interviewed by Oklahoma City Police on the scene, but officers “didn’t see anything that they thought was sufficient enough to place him under arrest or take him into custody.”
Devin Ratray became famous in the ’90s for his role as Buzz McCallister on Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Devin played Kevin McCallister’s mean older brother. According to the actor, a Home Alone reunion is scheduled to be produced and many of the original actors will be there to reprise their roles.
Devin has also acted in the Disney+ movie Home Sweet Home Alone, where he plays an older Buzz. According to the 44-year-old, he never realized how big of an impact Home Alone had on the world.
He said, “This film has become legacy and has affected families now for more than one generation. Parents are showing children, children are showing grandchildren something that I was a part of. I’ve come to realize that this movie, it’s bigger than me.”
It is unclear if the former child actor will face a court room for his domestic assault charges. Reps for Devin have not released an official statement in the case.
