Dr. Han Jo Kim, a spine surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery, settled his divorce with former beauty queen Regina Turner on Monday. According to court papers, the bitter divorce began in December 2020 after Kim suspected his wife of prostitution.
Dr. Han Jo Kim found crude messages between a man and his estranged spouse that detailed sex acts between the pair. After filing for divorce, Kim learned that the former Miss Connecticut USA allegedly had sex for cash and had been lying to him for the duration of their marriage.
Regina Turner and Kim were scheduled to appear at a public hearing at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, but they reportedly settled the divorce ahead of the court appearance. The speed at which the pair settled the divorce is shocking given the bitter nature of the case. Before the settlement, Dr. Han Jo Kim had filed a 264-page claim to the Manhattan Supreme Court indicating that the 41-year-old spinal surgeon sought to annul the marriage.
In the court papers, Kim alleged that the 32-year-old Miss Connecticut was a hooker and traded sex for a lot of money. Kim claimed she tricked him into the marriage while hiding her “secret life as a prostitute for wealthy men.” Dr. Kim found over $700,000 in cash stashed by Regina Turner since their marriage in 2015 which he claims is from her illegal work.
Turner’s financial records did show $675,030 in cash deposits from 2015 to 2021. While it’s difficult to prove, the prosecutors allege that the money came from clients Turner had, including a New Jersey real estate executive and a famous lighting designer from the United Kingdom. There were many checks deposited into the account from both sources, though the identities of the individuals have not been released.
Dr. Han Jo Kim and Regina Turner got married on November 27, 2015. Dr. Kim asserts that his wife began her role as a “call girl” before they tied the knot and says she continued throughout their marriage. The pair officially separated in April 2021, but the nature of their recent settlement is unclear. The attorneys for both parties have not commented on the settlement or revealed the details of the agreement.
Dr. Han Jo Kim is a very successful spinal surgeon who has expensive tastes. According to the New York Daily News, Dr. Kim made $3.2 million in 2018 and has two multi-million-dollar homes. Before the settlement, both Kim and Turner lived together in a $6.5 million Manhattan apartment.
According to the prosecutor, “it remains inconceivable to plaintiff that given his substantial earnings as a spine surgeon, and his enormous generosity to defendant, that defendant continued to sell sex for money during the marriage.”
Dr. Kim said that Regina Turner lied to him for the entirety of their union. Turner, who was crowned Miss Connecticut in 2011, told her estranged husband while they dated that she was working on an app supported by wealthy investors. Before their marriage, Kim wondered how she supported herself. She told him that she was living off of a $500,000 inheritance from her great-grandmother.
In reality, “her savings and access to funds derived from her receipt of money in exchange for provision of sexual services,” according to the complaint. While they were together, Turner would leave for long periods of time. She allegedly lied to Dr. Kim, saying that she was going on trips with her friends or that she was traveling for work.
Dr. Han Jo Kim also filed a complaint regarding Turner’s education. In the court documents, it says that Turner lied about her schooling. She told Dr. Kim that she had been a chemistry major at the University of Connecticut for three years before dropping out to compete in the Miss USA Pageant. In reality, Turner never graduated high school.
“Not to belabor the obvious but the defendant clearly committed material fraud upon Dr. Kim by concealing her sale of sexual services in exchange for money prior to the marriage,” it states in the court documents. “As is further obvious, plaintiff would never have married defendant absent her lies and concealment.”
