Gregg Leakes has changed since his cancer diagnosis, according to his wife, NeNe. The former The Real Housewives of Atlanta star said her 67-year-old husband has started to prepare for the “other side.”

Gregg Leakes was originally diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer back in 2018. After six months of treatment, he went into remission, and the couple was overjoyed. They posted on their Instagram, “Look at God! We are overjoyed to say, we saw the doctors for the results of Gregg’s Pet Scan he took last week! Test show, wait for It…..WE ARE CANCER-FREE!!! Yes, God!”

Last June, the reality TV star announced that her husband’s cancer had returned. NeNe has since shared how stressful the diagnosis has been on their marriage.

“It’s been a big transition for Gregg and I and our entire family,” she told PEOPLE in November 2018 after her husband was first diagnosed. “To learn that Gregg has cancer? Our lives just changed that day. Our whole routine changed. Just … everything changed. I don’t have cancer. Gregg has cancer. But I feel like our whole house has cancer.”

The couple has since stayed strong for each other and has found a way to overcome the struggles. Gregg was even supportive of his wife when she decided to leave RHOA in September 2020.

On Saturday, NeNe was candid with guests at her lounge in Duluth, Georgia. While visiting The Linnethia, a guest became angry at her for not acknowledging their friend’s birthday when she entered the space. NeNe responded by sharing some personal information with her guests.

In a video obtained by It’s Onsite, NeNe said “You don’t know what we’re dealing with right now. We walked in this lounge because we had to walk in this lounge because this is our business,” she told guests. “So when people approach and say, ‘You’re rude because you don’t want to say happy birthday,’ my husband is at home dying. I don’t want to say ‘happy birthday.'”

The former RHOA star asked for sympathy for her family during this difficult time.

Fans of NeNe and Gregg Leakes know that the cancer diagnosis has been difficult for many years now. During the 2019 reunion special of RHOA, NeNe told her fellow Housewives that she was considering divorcing Gregg for a second time because of how badly cancer had affected their marriage.

NeNe has told fans that Gregg is "transitioning to the other side," after his recent cancer diagnosis. The 67-year-old was originally diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2018 before later going into remission. In June, the couple revealed that the cancer had come back.

“It would be easy to make a decision about divorcing Gregg if he didn’t have cancer,” NeNe said. “I don’t want to live my life unhappy.”

The couple also revealed that they had been sleeping in separate beds and seeing a marriage counselor. At the time, Gregg Leakes had just finished his first six months of chemo treatment. The reality TV star told fans that cancer had changed Gregg, both physically and mentally. He wasn’t the same person who she had married.

The couple was originally married in 1997 and then first divorced in 2011. They went on to get remarried in 2013. They share one son together, Brentt Leakes, 22.
