Melek Sert and his wife Hasan Sert were devastated to learn that their son had been born a stillborn. The doctors told Hasan that she had miscarried at five months. But when Melek took his baby to the cemetery to be buried something surprising happened. The baby started to cry.
The “stillborn baby” is now in the intensive care unit at Adana City Training and Research Hospital. According to doctors, the baby is in critical condition, but his parents are not giving up hope for his survival.
“My baby is fighting for his life. Since we haven’t given him a name yet, donors can give blood for the Sert baby,” said Melek Sert.
According to reports, this strange incident happened on Jan. 2. Hasan Sert went to the hospital on Dec. 30 because she had severe back pain and bleeding. The couple feared that the 32-year-old was having a miscarriage. Doctors were able to stop the bleeding and send her home, but then she came back on New Year’s Eve because of more bleeding.
“But the day after, we went to the hospital again on New Year’s Eve with the same complaint. They kept me under surveillance because there was a risk of miscarriage. Then miscarriage occurred,” said Hasan Sert.
The Turkish woman was able to deliver her baby naturally, but she was told by doctors that the child was stillborn. Melek Sert made the decision to bury his son himself at the Herekli Neighborhood Cemetery. He was given a burial bag from the hospital, and he placed his “stillborn baby,” inside.
On his way to the cemetery, Melek heard his son cry. He immediately pulled over and called for an ambulance. The father wrapped his newborn in his jacket to keep him warm and turned up the heat in the car.
The couple and Turkish authorities have launched an investigation to determine if there was any negligence during the birth.
Hasan and Melek Sert are very happy that their newborn is alive and can’t wait to bring him home. The couple already has two older sons, ages 10 and 7. According to the mother, she is grateful that she gets to meet her new son.
“I saw him, at least I felt relieved. Thank God, I saw that he was fine, but the doctor said, ‘his condition is critical.’ He said that his blood pressure had dropped. He didn’t say anything else. He didn’t give much information about his condition we wait,” she said.
“We do not despair of God, we pray. I saw the back of the baby’s face and the back of his head during the last birth. I am happy, his hands and feet were fidgeting. I am very happy; I saw my child alive. What else can I ask of God? I hope he gets better and regains his health.”
This is not the only strange birth to happen on New Year’s. In California, twins were born just 15 minutes apart, but because they were born on New Year’s Eve, they have completely different birth years. Alfredo Antonio Trujillo was born at 11:45 p.m. New Year’s Eve, while his sister, Aylin Yolanda Trujillo, was born at midnight New Year’s Day.
The twins’ mother was shocked by the unusual birth of her children. Fatima Madrigal said, “It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays. I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
The babies were born at Natividad Medical Center in Monterey County, Calif. Because of her time of birth, Aylin Trujillo became the first baby to be born at the medical center in 2022. The doctor who delivered the twins was overjoyed that she was able to bring two healthy babies into the world for the new year.
Dr. Ana Abril Arias said, “This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career. It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the new year!”
