Trelynn Robinson, a Texas security guard, is being hailed as a hero, after he tackled an armed man who was trying to rob the poker room where Robinson works.

According to the Houston Police Department, the would-be thief showed up to the Legends Poker Room in the early morning hours on Saturday, brandishing a rifle and demanding cash. Robinson was able to overpower the suspect, who was arrested at the scene.

No one was seriously hurt in the scuffle, local reports add, though Robinson said he suffered minor wounds during the confrontation.

“People call me a hero but I ain’t no hero,” the security guard told Fox News. “I did my job and I signed up for it.”

The Houston Guard Saved Lives

According to local reports and police accounts, Robinson was working his shift at the Legends Poker Room in Richmond — a suburb of Houston’s west side — on Friday night and into Saturday morning.

At around 1:30 a.m., a man entered the 24-hour gambling den, carrying an AR-15 rifle and announcing his intention to rob the business.

Robinson later told reporters the robber was shouting “give me the money” and pointing his firearm in the faces of his would-be victims. Sensing an opportunity to take the thief by surprise, the security guard sprang into action.

“While the AR was pointing towards me, that is when I leaped towards him and we wrestled with the gun for about a good minute,” Robinson continued. In the dramatic struggle, the gunman managed to fire off a few rounds, grazing the security guard and hitting the poker room’s walls.

“[When]I lunged towards him, fought him, wrestled him with the gun, it started to go off,” Robinson recalled. “And upon it going off, I threw him inside a trophy case with the glass breaking and disarmed him.”

His quick thinking caught the robber off-guard. Stunned and shaken from being thrown through the trophy case window, the suspect became disoriented — giving Robinson, his fellow security guards and the gamblers just enough time to take away his weapon and pin him down until police arrived.

“A couple things happened,” he said with modesty. “I was able to tackle him down and put the handcuffs on him, and arrest him.”

In all, police believe the gunman fired between 10 and 15 shots. One bullet reportedly grazed Robinson’s skin, though the wound was not life-threatening.

According to ABC 13, as many as 50 gamblers were at the Legends Poker Room that night, their lives and property safe thanks to the boldness and courage of one security guard.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, though his name has not been released as of Tuesday.

Trelynn Robinson: I’m Not a Hero

Robinson did his job and was treated for his injuries, the graze wound and a dislocated shoulder suffered while tackling the gunman.

After that, it was business as usual for the security guard, who said he was back at the Poker Room for his next shift the following night.

“I just went home, took a nice little shower, put some patches on my shoulder because it dislocated … but I popped it back into place,” he said.

What’s more, Robinson said he’s not angry at the would-be thief for his attempted crime.

“I forgive him,” he told Fox. “Because I know he is probably going through some s— that caused him to do it.”
