Jennifer Aniston is recovering from an awkward interview she had Wednesday when she appeared virtually alongside Reese Witherspoon on The One Show. Jennifer had a cringe-worthy exchange with one of the hosts, Jermain Jenas, and it all went downhill from there.
The Friends actress was there to promote the new season of The Morning Show, which premiers on Apple+ TV on Friday, Sept. 17. The interviewers, Zoe Ball and Jermain Jenas, were sitting on a pair of green couches facing the TV screen that displayed both Jennifer and her co-star Reese.
After battling questions regarding The Morning Show – such as whether the actresses are excited about its upcoming release and what kind of topics the new season will cover – Jennifer Aniston began speaking about her experience with live TV.
“Jennifer, as prep before series one, you actually went behind the scenes of a real live TV show, Good Morning America,” said presenter Zoe Ball. “What did you learn about the crazy world of live TV?”
Jennifer Aniston prefaced her answer by saying it was “nothing you guys don’t already know” before explaining that she learned “what a slow burn that it all is.” She said that “it’s a very vampire state of life and mind that you guys live in. Everybody comes alive in the middle of the night, and it’s a slow-moving train.”
“I got there at five o’clock in the morning and the hallways were soft of quiet and people are just slowly waking up, and then all of a sudden, the train starts moving and it gets crazier and crazier,” Jennifer explained. “And somehow you don’t know how on Earth the show is going to be put on live at seven o’clock, because nothing, not even a bead of sweat has taken place. It’s utter chaos.”
Before Jennifer could get another word out, Jermain Jenas jumped in, interrupting the actress before turning to ask Reese Witherspoon whether she is a morning person. Jennifer Aniston tried to finish her thought, speaking over Jermain. “Until they say, you know, three, two, one…” she said, before trailing off.
The Friends star looked away from the camera as Jermain pushed forward with his question. “Reese, I’ve got to be honest with you,” he began. “Jennifer’s pretty much sold it to me that she’s not a morning person.”
Jennifer Aniston looked baffled at the comment, laughing it off as Jermain Jenas asked Reese whether she was a morning person. Jennifer, gliding her hand through her hair, sent a dirty look to Jermain – if looks could kill.
“Did I sell that to you?’” Jennifer jumped back into the conversation, seeming to swallow her frustration at Jermain’s comment. The former English soccer player answered the actress, telling her that she did in fact sell it, “a little bit, a little bit.”
Then, Jennifer couldn’t hold it back anymore. She snapped at the host, asking him sarcastically: “Did I get a good deal?”
Trying to cover up the awkward exchange, Reese Witherspoon took over the conversation, explaining that “no, I’m definitely a morning person. Jen and I talk about this all the time. I’m the morning person and she’s more of a night person.”
She continued, claiming that “it actually works out because I do kind of the early morning scenes, and then by 4 o’clock I’m toast, and then Jen starts around 11 and 12, and then she can do the night scenes because I can’t even think straight past 4 p.m.”
After the awkward interview, cringing fans took to social media to discuss the strange altercation between Jennifer Aniston and Jermain Jenas. The weird TV interview sparked a debate online, with some people claiming Jermain was wrong to interrupt Jennifer and claim she wasn’t a morning person. At the same time, other fans were adamant that Jennifer overreacted, saying the Friends actress has an attitude.
“Jermain dying on his arse trying to interview Jennifer Aniston,” one fan said on Twitter. Another person replied, pointing out that the actress is “clearly not a fan of [Jermain Jenas].”
Another person said the exchange was “painful.”
One person on Twitter claimed that “Jennifer Aniston’s ‘tude on this interview is cringe. She keeps looking to the side awkward.”
Another commenter echoed the sentiment, asking social media if “anyone else [caught] Jennifer Anniston’s [sic] negative reaction to the male presenter regarding the morning person bit? Awkward.”
Someone else said that “I [am] sensing a wee ‘attitude’ here.”
One Jennifer fan stuck up for the actress, writing on Twitter that “#TheOneShow sorry but I don’t think #JenniferAniston was rude at all and it’s rude to cut someone off when they’re talking, people need to chill.”
