Newlyweds Jessiah Plemons, 31, and Lily Rose, 25, were killed in a car accident two days after they got married, according family members.

The Tennessee couple was reportedly driving with their friend, 23-year-old Madison Davis at around 3 a.m. on Sunday when their truck hit a guard rail on an I-40 exit ramp near Knoxville.

Police said the three exited the car and were standing close by when a driver in a Chevrolet pickup truck struck them and their vehicle.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene, WATE reports. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital and treated for injures that “did not appear to be life-threatening.”

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Jessiah Plemons and Lily Rose Just Married

According to Milea Effler, sister of Jessiah Plemons, the husband and wife had just taken their vows on Friday.

Effler said the pair had eloped, keeping their wedding a secret until posting about it on Facebook that evening, to the delight of their friends and family.

Michelle Plemons, Jessiah’s mother, told reporters that both husband and wife had children — Jessiah Plemons had previously taken custody of his older sister’s two children to prevent them from being turned over to social services, and Lily Rose had a daughter and a son from a previous relationship.

Michelle said she was watching the children while the newlyweds celebrated on Friday and Saturday night, before she received the devastating news.

“Next thing you know, I get a knock on my door. And it’s just, it’s every mother’s nightmare. Every mother’s nightmare,” she told WATE.

She told reporters she would be taking custody of her son’s children following his death. It’s not clear who will retain custody of Lily Rose’s children.

Effler said she never got the chance to congratulate her brother and his bride before learning of the accident.

Jessiah Plemons, 31, and his wife Lily Rose, 25, were killed in tragic car crash only two days after their wedding. Police say the cause of the devastating accident is still under investigation.

Families in Mourning

The families of Jessiah Plemons and Lily Rose said that the pair shared a special kinship.

“They had found each other and found that they were both, needed someone else,” Effler said to reporters.

“Lily was just the life of our family. She would just bring sunshine into the room. Her laughter would fill the room,” said her aunt, Selena McClelland.

“She was silly, she was always silly. She always wanted to do TikToks with people, like that was her thing,” added her cousin, August McClelland.

“I think that’s what made it harder, is the fact that she was the happiest she’d ever been and it got taken away from her.”

Jessiah Plemons’ family said he had overcome a battle with addiction in the years before his death.

“He struggled with addiction and he had turned himself around,” said Effler. He called it his new birthday when he turned 23 because that’s when he was fully sober.”

Michelle said her son was a regular attendee at local Narcotics Anonymous meetings, where he often shared his story and his struggles with those battling demons of their own.

“He’d done a lot of sponsoring to a lot of people,” she told reporters. “He also had spoken to the jails, you know, to try to give others a thought of having a brighter future.”

The families of the husband and wife have set up GoFundMe pages to assist with the unexpected funeral costs. Both pages have surpassed their fundraising goals in the 48 hours since they were posted.
