More than three decades before Kate Moss’ revealing photos for Kim Kardashian’s SKIM brand, the fashion icon debuted a waif-like look in Calvin Klein underwear ads. First discovered at JFK airport in New York, the British supermodel exploded on the scene in the 1990s. At 5-foot-7 she was tiny compared to Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford. She was also much thinner. In the early ’90s, Kate helped popularize the term “heroin chic” defined by pale skin, huge eyes, stringy hair and an ultra-skinny body.

Kate Moss officially broke out when she was featured in Calvin Klein’s Obsession ad campaign, becoming one of the most famous and sought-after models in the industry. Attracted to Kate’s waif-like figure, Calvin Klein knew the model would be perfect for his Obsession ads, which needed a revamp. Even more, Calvin was in love with how male model and photographer, Mario Sorrenti, was obsessed with Kate Moss. The two young lovers were a match that Calvin couldn’t let go of. So he sent them off to express themselves with a couch, a bag of clothes, and a camera.

Kate Moss was a breakout star, known for her "heroin chic" and ultra-skinny look. Critics were quick to demean her appeal, claiming she promoted an "unhealthy" body image and glorified anorexia.

The product of Calvin Klein’s risk was not only Kate and Mario’s exploding careers but through-the-roof sales. The reason: Kate Moss drew audiences in with her childlike image of beauty, her partially nude body, and her super-slim figure on full display.

“She has this childlike, womanlike thing,” Calvin Klein told People. ”And it’s very real and modern when a woman’s hair looks a little dirty, when it sticks together a little.”

As Kate Moss gained attention, the tabloids began to obsess. In 2006, a cell phone camera caught the skinny model bent over a line of cocaine and the world went crazy. The sexy woman with cryptic appeal did not lose her edge, she gained it back – eight months after the cocaine scandal, Kate was making money like never before.

In 2006, Kate Moss signed a £1.5 million contract with Nikon cameras and another £500,000 deal with Calvin Klein. The hot commodity was steaming, not because she got prettier at 32, but because she got “hotter.” Kate’s bad-girl appeal got a whole lot more appealing, and audiences were once again awestruck at her allure. The exciting suspicions of her inner character, only displayed in quick fashion ads or edited stills, were confirmed. Audiences were in love and the money followed.

After a 15-year absence from the Cannes Film Festival, Kate Moss made a dramatic entrance in 2016. Many fans believed she used plastic surgery to complete a stunning transformation.

In 2007, Kate was no longer her adolescent self. Her body began to round, maternal curves set in. Though she was once paper-thin; skin and bone, she became a “real woman” with real curves.

Jump forward another decade and Kate Moss is still turning heads. Her debut in Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand is new, bold, and powerful statement. Once deemed “flat” and “thin,” Kate Moss has curves for days. Kim’s brand is meant to tummy flatten and work for any body to create that appealing “hourglass shape.” Before and after photos show that Kate has certainly transformed over the years. Though Kate will never be “the average” woman, her body is now more relatable. And Kim knew that intuitively.

The 47-year-old is sizzling in the campaign shots posted on Kim Kardashian’s Instagram. Wednesday’s post sent Kate fans astir, with the scantily clad, near-naked photos showing a huge difference from the teenager spotted at JFK years ago. Three decades later, Kate Moss certainly does not embody “heroin chic.”

The first snap, a side view, shows off Kate’s toned abs in black and white undergarments meant to plump and fill out. The next shot is a sexy frontal, with just enough coverage, but still show off her sexy physique. There are seven stills on Kim’s Instagram feed, each one a chic, new look for Kate Moss.

Kim Kardashian captioned the post, in which she wrote “introducing Kate Moss for @SKIMS. I first met @katemossagency in 2014 through Ricardo Tisci, and was instantly struck by her cheeky humor, authentic and classic beauty – we’ve been friends ever since! She is THE fashion icon, defining a whole generation of style and I am honored to feature her as the new face of SKIMS this Summer!”
