Bob Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, shared an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, thanking friends and fans for their love and support during this incredibly difficult time.
The comedian and Full House star suddenly passed away two months ago on Jan. 9, after performing a stand-up show in Orlando, Fl. He was 65 years old and was found unconscious on his bed by Ritz-Carlton staff after family reported that he was unresponsive and had yet to check out of the hotel.
“I just wanted to take a second to say to everybody that it has not gone unnoticed. I have been incredibly grateful and appreciative of all of you for the love and support,” Kelly Rizzo, 42, said on Instagram. “I have had people who were strangers that now have become friends on Instagram. So many people have shared their stories with me of the loss that you’ve been through, and you’ve poured out your heart, and it’s just really kind that you’ve tried to help me by sharing your stories.”
A travel blogger on her site Eat Travel Rock, Rizzo said dealing with death in the public eye has been very challenging, at that she is “still very new to this world.”
“I feel I’ve had kind of a crash course in it. Especially doing it very publicly, it adds a whole other level that takes it to this different place that you understand in a certain way,” she continued. “But I can assure you that the kindness you all have shown has been a little bright spot and has made this a bit easier. And the thing that has really helped is seeing how much you all loved Bob because this outpouring is something, like, I don’t think anybody has ever seen.”
She told fans that she’s been doing her best to respond to comments and engage, but the past few weeks have been extremely difficult for the entire family. Taking to Instagram in a series of Stories, she said that she just wanted to “tell everyone how thankful and grateful and appreciative I am of everything that you’ve all done to try to help me through this incredibly difficult time.”
Many celebrities attended the late comedian’s funeral, including Full House stars John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Jodie Sweetin, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Investigators are currently investigating Bob Saget’s death after an autopsy revealed that he suffered from head trauma right before his passing. “Foul play” and drug have been ruled out.
Authorities believe that he may have fallen and accidentally hit his head on something before stumbling to his bed and falling unconscious. According to the New York Post, he could have struck his head on the marble floor in the hotel bathroom or fallen down stairs in the hallway, but reports remain inconclusive.
In mid-February, Kelly Rizzo and the family of Bob Saget filed a motion to block the release of records related to the actor’s cause of death, believing that certain, graphic material would only bring more harm and pain upon his likeness.
“No legitimate public interest would be served by the release or dissemination of the records to the public,” the family’s lawsuit read.
Releasing a statement in response, The Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that “while we are sensitive to the family’s concerns about the right to privacy, that must be balanced with our commitment to transparency, compliance with the law, and the public’s right to know.”
In a surprising decision, Circuit Judge Vincent Chiu blocked some documents of the investigation, including the autopsy and toxicology reports, from reaching the public.
