Kevin Wendt and Astrid Loch, a fan-favorite Bachelor in Paradise couple, announced that their newborn baby son, August, was hospitalized this week with Covid-19.
Kevin, 37, and Astrid, 31, welcomed August into their family just under a month ago on Nov. 21, writing at the time that it was a “dream come true.”
After feeling mild symptoms, the BIP trio took themselves to the nearby hospital, where they found out that little “Auggy” had more than just a winter fever.
“Tough week for @thewendtgang,” Kevin Wendt wrote on his Instagram Tuesday. “This is an appreciation post for the best mother and teammate there is. Our family has covid and it is not taking it easy on any of us. Astrid had a terrible flu followed by Auggy getting a fever, which after being tested is covid as well.”
“August was admitted to the hospital and seeing him sick and in pain at 4 weeks old breaks our hearts,” he continued. Kevin said that he got very sick on Monday and felt even worse Tuesday–so much so that he didn’t feel able to get to the hospital.
“Because of the new variant and the unknown around transmission, I’ve been staying clear of my little man until my symptoms are gone,” he said, hoping to beat the virus and isolate for 10 days after feeling symptoms, as the CDC recommended.
The Bachelor in Paradise couple will sadly miss Christmas due to testing positive for Covid-19, like many families across the country forced to stay home as the virus spreads rapidly.
Kevin Wendt and Astrid Loch met during Season 5 of Bachelor of Paradise, where they separated before reconnecting after the show finished filming. They got engaged on Aug. 28, 2019, and have been happily together ever since.
Kevin was a contestant on the Bachelorette in Canada before joining his American co-stars on Bachelor Winter Games. He won that show with popular contestant Ashley Iaconetti, though they broke up shortly after.
Gushing about Astrid, he wrote on Instagram that she was “such a champ” and “born to be a mom.”
“While very sick she did everything and more a great mother does,” Kevin wrote. “Thanks hun, for being the mother I knew you would be, already.”
The couple briefly struggled with fertility and underwent IVF to welcome August into their lives. Announcing their pregnancy back in May, Astrid said one of the first conversations they had together was about how much they loved kids and both wanted children.
“When I think about Kev holding our little angel for the first time my heart flutters,” she said at the time. “Even in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have imagined how amazing this would all feel.”
“To all the couples trying to get pregnant, my heart is with you,” Astrid wrote, sharing a photo of her ultrasound on Instagram. “We know first hand how hard it can be to see these kinds of posts and feel sad & discouraged. We too struggled with fertility and conceiving naturally – it’s the toughest thing we’ve ever been through and I can’t wait to share more of how we got here. But today is finally about some good news & we hope you can enjoy it with us.”
Though dealing with minor symptoms, the family is in good spirits and are hopeful, E! News reported.
Many of their friends and co-stars from Bachelor Nation reached out to give their messages of love, including Tia Booth who wrote that she was, “Praying for a quick recovery!”
“Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry!! Praying for strength & recovery!” wrote Raven Gates. “I can only imagine.”
