Khalil Burns was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the Woodbridge hotel shooting last month. The 27-year-old is charged with two counts of attempted murder after he and three other men participated in a horrific shooting at the Delta Hotels Marriott that injured four people.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said police took Khalil Burns into custody Tuesday in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He is currently being held in Middlesex County jail ahead of his pre-trial detention hearing. It wasn’t immediately clear if Burns has legal representation.
The initial incident occurred at the Delta Hotels Marriott in the Iselin section of Woodbridge. Authorities responded to the hotel at around 2:37 a.m. on July 12 after guests reported multiple shots fired. Officers eventually located the four victims – ages 20, 22, 23, and 25 – who were seeking treatment for their gunshot wounds at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Detective Thomas Ratajczak from the Woodbridge Police Department launched a formal investigation into the matter. The investigation revealed that four suspects were involved in the shooting.
Antoine Morgan, 25, Gasim Kromah, 26, Khalil Burns, 27, and Isaiah Gregory, 22, who are all Linden residents, attended a party at the Delta Hotels Marriott before the shooting occurred. All four of the men had already been charged with weapons offenses in connection with the shooting, but police didn’t book them on attempted murder.
Gasim Kromah was arrested only three days after the shooting. He is currently being held at the Middlesex County jail. He participated in a detention hearing, a Woodbridge County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
Both Antoine Morgan and Isaiah Gregory were arrested immediately after the shooting. Officials confirmed they arrested the two men in July but were still seeking Burns and Kromah at the time.
Members of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force arrested Khalil Bruns on August 10 after the investigation uncovered his direct connection to the shooting. According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and the Woodbridge Police Department assisted in the arrest. The Linden Police Department also provided assistance throughout the investigation, the prosecutor’s office reported.
Khalil Burns and the other three men were charged with hindering, obstruction, tampering with evidence, and weapons-related offenses in connection with the Woodbridge hotel shooting.
According to officials, the investigation is ongoing, and “as is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Morgan, Kromah, Burns, and Gregory are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Authorities also requested any information regarding the Woodbridge hotel shooting. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office explained that “the investigation is active and continuing” and requested that “anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ratajczak at (732) 634-7700 or Detective Tighe at (732) 745-4335.”
