Kit Harington and Rose Leslie have been enjoying taking care of their baby boy, as their whirlwind Game of Thrones romance continued off-screen. Brimming with a smile as he sat down for a video interview with Access, the Modern Love and Eternals actor shared sweet details about the difficulty of becoming a new parent.
“I think the thing that’s surprised me most is, you know, they tell you, but they don’t; everyone goes, ‘Look, it’s big. What you’re about to go through is big.’ And you have no way of knowing that until it happens,” Kit Harington, 34, shared. “Then what surprises you is you go, ‘Oh, this goes on forever!’ You don’t get a break from it.”
Kit and his wife, Rose Leslie, 34, had their son last February, making him 9-months-old now. Their baby boy’s name, which was never announced, is still under wraps. The two took a long time to even reveal that they were dating while filming HBO’s fantasy epic Game of Thrones.
“Every day I wake up and look after this little human and now we’re part of a unit together,” Kit said of his new family. “You are now a unit, the three of you.”
He described it as a “whole new dynamic you need to find, and pretty much find every day as he grows and changes,” enjoying the challenges and finding out how it can “change you.”
“It’s a beautiful thing,” Kit said. “It really is.”
The couple met while filming Game of Thrones, where on the screen their characters Jon Snow and Ygritte were also falling in love. Confirming their relationship even past Rose’s exit from the show, the two announced their engagement in quite an old-fashioned way, by taking out an advertisement in the “Forthcoming Marriages” section of London’s The Sunday Times.
“If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love,” he said at the time. Rose moved into his Tudor manor home and rearranged the place, with Kit joking on The Late Late Show with James Corden that she told him that they had to move the kitchen downstairs.
“The most important job I’ll ever have is about to finish,” he said as GoT was coming to an end. “Well, not the most. Hopefully, I’ll be a father.”
In an interview with GQ, Kit Harington remarked that it would be nice for his future children to be able to see his parents fall in love on screen in Game of Thrones. “They’ll be able to see the genesis of their parents getting together,” he said, “Which is quite a wonderful thought, really.”
After their son was born in February, a spokesperson told reporters that “the couple welcomed a baby boy” and are “very very happy!”
Recently, Kit Harington has been appearing in less serious episodic series, such as Marvel’s Eternals and Amazon’s Modern Love dating anthology.
In Eternals, due out on Nov. 5, Kit plays Dane Whitman, a London’s Natural History Museum employee destined to become the legendary Black Knight–no doubt casted from his role on Game of Thrones. But in Modern Love, he was able to be part of a quick, romantic comedy.
“I played a character [on Game of Thrones] that was probably the least comic character that TV has ever seen,” he told Access, “so to do something that was a bit funnier and a bit lighter was really refreshing.”
