While police have said that the deaths of Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner are not connected to fugitive Brian Laundrie, it hasn’t stopped the Internet from finding similarities in the two cases. Even though there is no official connection, some people have found eerie links.

Schulte and Turner were last seen Aug. 13, and their bodies were found on Aug. 18 at their campsite in the La Sal Mountains near Moab, Utah. Both women suffered multiple gunshot wounds. According to unsealed warrants shown in court, they were partially dressed.

At the same time that Schulte and Turner were last seen, Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito were spotted in Moab, Utah on Aug. 12. Police were called in to investigate a domestic incident that Laundrie and Petito were having outside of Moonflower Food Co-Op, where Kylen Schulte apparently worked.

A representative from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office talked about the deaths of Schulte and Turner, saying, “We’re looking at everything, I mean, anything and everything that was suspicious around that time or we’re not ruling anything out at this time.”

Police are asking that individuals who were in the La Sal Mountain area on Aug. 13, 14, or 15 contact the police department and share anything that they might have seen or heard.

Laundrie and Petito were separated by police and Brian Laundrie spent the night at the Bowen Motel, which was only a seven- minute walk from Woody’s Tavern, where the newlywed couple was last seen.

According to friends of the couple, the women had been camping at a nearby campground and decided to move their campsite because of a creepy man who was bothering them.

“They said they needed to move their campsite because of some creepy guy at their campsite,” said Bridget Calvert, Schulte’s aunt. “These are outdoors girls, and they’re independent and confident,” she said, “And for somebody to make them feel uncomfortable, it had to be a very valid discomfort.”

Schulte and Turner were known for their bohemian lifestyle and spent a lot of time living out of their van and traveling. According to friends, everyone in the community loved the newlyweds.

It is unclear whether Brian Laundrie was seen the night of Schulte and Turner’s murder, and the exact date of their deaths is still undetermined. The FBI is currently looking for Laundrie’s DNA. That would provide details for all three deaths, Gabby Petito, Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner.

Brian Laundrie is currently a person of interest in the death of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito. He has been missing and has eluded the FBI.

Gabby Petito was reported missing on Sept. 11 by her family after she sent a strange text message to her mother and said “No service in Yosemite.” Her mother is unsure if it was actually Gabby who sent that final message. The 22-year-old was on a cross-country van trip with Laundrie.

According to family, Brian Laundrie returned to Florida on Sept. 1 without Petito, he was labeled as a person of interest in the case on Sept. 15 and has since disappeared.

People all over the Internet followed the Gabby Petito case and provided the police with important information. One woman claimed that she saw the couple arguing at Merry Piglets in Wyoming on Aug. 27.

Gabby’s remains were found by police on Sept. 19 and they were identified as the young woman. An autopsy discovered that the cause of death was homicide. The investigation into Gabby Petito’s death and Turner and Schulte’s deaths are ongoing. No suspects have been arrested in either crimes.

The Moab City Police Chief has announced that he will be taking a leave of absence following reports from people who are upset with how the department treated Gabby Petito and the domestic incident that she had with Brian Laundrie.

The chief said last week, “We take all complaints seriously and we are committed to fully addressing these concerns.”
