The Grand County Sheriff’s Office announced that they have “multiple persons of interest” for the murders of Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner. The same-sex couple was killed in August in Moab, Utah. No suspects have been arrested in the murder case thus far.

Following Schulte and Turner’s murders friends and family have been outraged by the lack of leads in the case. Schulte’s father, Sean-Paul Schulte, has been very vocal about his anger at the police.

According to police, officers have not narrowed the Moab investigation down to one suspect and continue to look at all leads. They posted a statement on their Facebook page and said, “GCSO’s investigation is active and ongoing. GCSO has persons of interest but has not yet identified a suspect. GCSO continues to examine and analyze evidence by utilizing third-party and FBI crime labs.”

Officers recently ruled out Brian Laundrie as a suspect. At the time of the newlyweds’ deaths, Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito were seen in multiple spots that seemingly had connections to Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner. Online sleuths believed that Laundrie killed his girlfriend and the same-sex couple.

But the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI ruled out Laundrie. They said, “GSCO request the Moab community be careful about sharing information on social media. Such information tends to be misinformed, inaccurate, and unhelpful to the criminal investigation, if not dangerous.”

Sean-Paul Schulte has actually thanked online sleuths. He believes they could help find his daughter’s killer. Her father set up his own tip website following the murders. He repeatedly claimed that when he turned clues into the police that officers dismissed what he viewed as leads.

He told Desert News, “I don’t even know where these clues are going, I wish I knew that the clues I’m turning in were immediately being handed over professionally by a team of investigators. But it seems to me they are being handled by a shorthanded, small-town entity.”

Schulte’s father also hired a private investigator to help solve the mysterious murder case. The PI, Jason Jensen, is hopeful that satellite images will help him find new information.

“We’re hoping that satellite imagery in Moab will reveal a car in their camp area, at least a color, if (we’re) not be able from skyward to notice the make and model,” he said.

Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner’s bodies were found in the La Sal Mountains on August 18, 2021. According to an autopsy, the two women were shot multiple times and some of their clothes were removed. There were no signs of sexual assault.

The newlyweds had only been married for four months before their death. They lived in their van and were fixtures in many of the local campsites. They were last seen at Woody’s Tavern around 8:30 p.m. and they told friends that they were planning to move their campsite because a “creepy guy,” was following them.

“They said they needed to move their campsite because of some creepy guy at their campsite,” Bridget Calvert, Kylen Schulte’s aunt said. “These are outdoors girls, and they’re independent and confident. And for somebody to make them feel uncomfortable, it had to be a very valid discomfort.”

The “creepy weirdo” was never identified, and it is unclear if he is one of the suspects being investigated.
