Lauryn Ham, a 15-year-old from southern California, was treated for a concussion Sunday after a player on the opposing team sucker punched her in the middle of a game

The shocking attack was caught on video, and shows Ham fall to the floor after being struck in the face and throat area.

The other player has not been publicly named, though she is reportedly the daughter of a former professional basketball player.

TMZ reported that the other player has been suspended from the youth league.

Video Shows Lauryn Ham Sucker Punched

Lauryn’s mother Alice Ham posted the full video to her Instagram on Monday.

The footage shows Ham and the unidentified player fall to the floor, after Ham blocks her from making a three-point shot.

The pair stand up, but as Ham begins to jog away, the other girl winds up and lands a powerful haymaker to her face.

“THIS… this right here makes me SICK to my stomach,” Alice Ham wrote on Instagram. “This happened to MY DAUGHTER at her game yesterday. There is absolutely no place for something like this in basketball, I don’t care how famous you are!”

Alice was not at her daughter’s game on Sunday, but she said that other parents heard the unidentified girl’s mother encourage her to hit Ham.

“It’s pretty clear that she tells her daughter you have to hit her for that,” Alice Ham said. “What ‘that’ is, I don’t know. I don’t know what the mom thinks she saw.”

She also wrote on Instagram: “This mom told her daughter to ‘go and hit her’ and my kid gets an unprovoked sucker punch. I’m sorry but it’s everything that’s wrong with youth sports.”

Alice Ham Says Daughter Concussed

Local reports indicated that when Alice arrived to pick her up, Lauryn Ham had an icepack to her head and needed help getting in the car.

According to her mother, Ham was later treated for a bruised neck and a concussion.

The 15-year-old has also reportedly been out of school, as she is too concussed to be able to focus, her mother said.

“I’m just praying she’ll get back on the court and do what she loves,” Alice told reporters, adding that her daughter has spent the last few days in a dark room, resting.

Alice wrote on Instagram that neither the unnamed player or her mother have reached out to offer an apology in the days since.

Girl Who Threw Punch Banned from League

According to TMZ, the player who punched Lauryn Ham has been banned from AVAC United, the youth basketball league in which both girls were enrolled.

The girl’s mother, who allegedly encouraged the attack, was also banned from league venues, the outlet reported.

The unnamed girl’s family issued a statement through their lawyer, obtained by ABC 7:

“My client and her family are deeply and sincerely remorseful. This is an unfortunate incident involving a very hard working and promising student athlete. We must keep some perspective and keep in mind that this is a young minor who has made a mistake.”

“We would respectfully request that she be given the benefit of the doubt, and that her privacy be respected, given her young age.”

The girl is reportedly 14 years old.

Still, Lauryn Ham’s mother filed a police report over the incident, and said she hopes to see consequences for the other girl and her mother.

“The mom incites violence upon my child,” Alice said. “That is never okay. I want the mom to be held accountable for her actions.”
