Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell have been spending a lot of time together. Now Bachelor fans are wondering if the gorgeous couple will overcome the past racism controversy.
Matt James recently visited Rachael and her family in her hometown of Cumming, Georgia. The pair was able to spend a cozy weekend together while bonding with her family. They cuddled during some boat rides, and Matt even played a couple of rounds of tennis with Rachael’s mom. She beat him!
The Bachelor couple has been spending a lot of time together in recent months and announced last April that they had rekindled their romance. Since then, the couple has spent a vacation in the Hamptons together and were even spotted at the Spritz Society launch at Jimmy Rooftop Bar in SoHo recently.
According to Page Six, the couple was seen cuddling and holding each other close. Which made Bachelor Nation fans swoon at the romance. Many people are wondering if this adorable couple will be engaged soon despite the drama that they have experienced in their past.
Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell have faced a lot of struggles in a short period of time. But Rachael was determined to make it work.
In an interview on the Pomp podcast, the 29-year-old said, “She was like, ‘If you’re going to make this work, let’s do it. But, if you’re not going to make it work, I’m going to let you do your own thing.” Apparently, Matt was hesitant to announce their rekindled relationship and he had good reason to be.
The couple fell in love on Matt’s season of The Bachelor, but a firestorm of controversy caused them to break up. It was revealed during the season that Rachael had gone to an antebellum plantation-themed ball in 2019. The controversy that developed from this caused longtime host Chris Harrison to get fired.
Rachael has since apologized for her past actions. Rachael said, “It was a bit of a journey. But I think we’re in a really good place. We’ve had a lot of love come our way, but I like to think that even though people have been super, super nice, we just like to focus on each other and put all of that aside and let that outside noise stay a little more quiet these days. So it’s been good though, we’ve been good.”
Matt said that it was her authenticity that drew him to Rachael during The Bachelor and that it still helped him when they got back together. The couple said that they need to go at their own pace. Matt and Rachael are trying to leave behind the mistakes of their past.
The former Bachelor said, “One of the first conversations I had with Rachael’s mom was when she told me that it was a choice that you had to make every single day and that is real. Not every day is going to be sunshine and rainbows, but you have to continue to make that decision to love that person every day, regardless of what is going on.”
