Matthew Mindler has been missing since Tuesday and now police are asking for the public’s help in finding him. Mindler, who acted alongside Paul Rudd in Our Idiot Brother, is a first-year student at Millersville University. His friends and family are trying to understand what happened this week and why he can’t be located.
He was reported missing to the campus police late Wednesday after he failed to return calls or texts. He also did not return to his dorm room after reportedly leaving at 8:11 p.m. on Tuesday.
Millersville University posted a picture captured from a security camera that showed Matthew Mindler leaving his residence hall toward the Centennial Dr. parking lot. In the photo, he was wearing a white Millersville University hoodie with black stripes on the arm. He was also wearing black jeans, a black backpack, and a pair of white sneakers.
The university reported that Mindler attended his classes on Monday and Tuesday but failed to show up on Wednesday. The pattern continued on Thursday and Friday. The police contacted his mom, who claimed she had no idea where her son was.
Millersville University filed a missing person’s report with the National Crime Information Center on Thursday afternoon and local police have been notified. The university and police are asking anyone with information to contact Millersville University Police. In a Twitter post Thursday, the university police said that all tips can be reported confidentially through the “LiveSafe App.”
TMZ reported that the local police department is being flooded with tips and is following every lead they can. It wasn’t immediately clear if police suspect Mindler is in danger or if they believe he ran away. Mindler’s mother, Monica, told reporters that her son is 19 years old, not 20 like the university states in its alert.
Matthew Mindler was a popular child actor who worked on films such as Our Idiot Brother and Frequency. According to IMDb, he did not continue with the profession after his 2013 project. Acting alongside Paul Rudd in Our Idiot Brother, Mindler played River, a kid unable to express himself. His parents held a lot of control over him, which left him emotionally scarred.
The film was well-received by audiences but faced critical scrutiny for its comedic approach to tough conversations. It also starred Zooey Deschanel and Elizabeth Banks.
Matthew Mindler’s mother admitted that her son has not acted in several years. She also said she is awaiting more information from Millersville University.
According to the university’s webpage, the on-campus police department “provides 24-hour coverage year-round with a full staff of state-commissioned sworn police officers.”
