Melissa McGarry, the wife of the New York City police officer who was caught on video getting a lap dance from a subordinate, shouted obscenities at reporters Monday outside the family’s Orange County home.
“F—k you!” she told New York Post writers who asked about the Thursday incident. According to the outlet, husband Nick McGarry had to hold Melissa back while she hurled angry insults at members of the press.
“It’s not worth it, get back in the car,” he reportedly told her. “There are other things to worry about in this world!” she told the journalists.
“F—k you!” Melissa shoted again with her middle fingers raised as the pair drove off.
Reports: Melissa McGarry Angry About Lap Dance Story
The episode unfolded about a day after the Post published a video from an unnamed police source, which showed NYPD Lt. Nick McGarry receiving a lap dance in a Yonkers bar from a junior officer during a precinct Christmas party last week.
As Breaking Daily News previously reported, the video shows a woman with a blurred face giving a lap dance to a smiling man in the middle of what appears to be a bar, as the other patrons — reportedly NYPD officers — clear the floor and look on. Another seems to show the same dance filmed from a different angle, dancing and grinding on the same man, claimed to be McGarry. The identity of the junior officer has not been published.
The anonymous police source also told the newspaper that NYPD brass was “furious” about the incident, and that an internal investigation is underway.
McGarry has since been reassigned, from his post in the Bronx’s 44th precinct to subway duty with the much-less-prestigious transit bureau, according to the follow-up report. He apparently did not give a comment to the Post reporters who showed up at his home Monday morning.
Official NYPD spokespeople would only confirm to the newspaper that the incident was under investigation. The police unions to which McGarry belongs also declined to comment.
It’s still unclear what exact policies McGarry and his dance partner may have violated at the Christmas party. Though it’s reportedly “frowned upon” for senior officers to be romantically involved with their subordinates, it’s not expressly prohibited by the department.
The police source told the Post that neither McGarry nor the junior officer had spoken with internal investigators about the video as of Sunday. Both of their phones were turned off and their voicemail boxes were not accepting messages that morning, the report added.
Junior Officer’s Father Angry at McGarry
Meanwhile, the father of the unnamed officer who gave McGarry the lap dance told the news outlet he was furious with the embattled lieutenant, who he said “should know better.”
“She told me, ‘Daddy, I make some mistake,’” the father told reporters Monday. “‘I’m very embarrassed about what I did. I embarrassed you and my family.’”
The junior officer was said to be relatively new to the force and a recent police academy graduate. It’s not clear if she was reassigned or is otherwise facing disciplinary action from the department.
The rookie’s father said she’s “frustrated” by the blowback from her conduct at the Christmas party.
“She cried and cried,” her dad said. “She is young. […] He is married, the lieutenant. He should know better. I am going to sue them.”
The Post could not reach the junior officer for comment Monday.
