NeNe Leakes looks completely different in her before and after photos. Only a couple of weeks after the death of her husband, Gregg Leakes, NeNe posted a selfie that showed her drastic transformation. Did the former Real Housewives star have plastic surgery? Or was the picture just photoshopped?
“NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Where is Ne Ne?” one of her followers wrote in the comment section. The sentiment was echoed by many others, who thought the highly edited photo was weird. Some even claimed it was completely photoshopped or that the reality star got plastic surgery.
“Who is this in the picture?” another follower sarcastically asked Thursday. “That’s not NeNe?”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum posted the strange photo just two weeks after she lost her 66-year-old husband to colon cancer. She captioned the photo: “Pushing thru” followed by a muscle emoji. “Thank you @jasmine.dior @gracefulartistry For pampering me always.”
It wasn’t immediately clear how the two women NeNe Leakes listed in her caption pampered her, however, one is a hairstylist and the other is a professional makeup artist. It’s certainly possible they provided a much-needed beauty treatment. NeNe also later confirmed that she drove to the hairstylist Thursday despite usually having her hair done at home.
Instead of “beauty,” followers were more concerned for NeNe than ever. She looked unusual in the picture, with huge eyes, thick eyebrows, and a fake-looking nose. It wasn’t clear if NeNe Leakes’ strange appearance was the result of filters, but fans were not happy.
“Nene this picture scared me,” one of NeNe’s fans told her. “I didn’t recognize you. All love.”
Another asked why the reality star did that to herself in the first place. “I’m sorry but this is the strangest picture!” they wrote. “Who is that? What happened?”
As the negative comments flooded the post, the 53-year-old decided to limit the reactions to the shocking photo. After cutting off the negativity, NeNe Leakes posted an explanation in her Instagram Stories, telling her fans why she went back to blond hair, among other drastic facial transformations.
“So I played in dark hair long enough,” she said in a video posted to her Stories. In the video, NeNe didn’t look as bizarre as she did in her recent photo. However, she seemed to be in the same car. “Now that I’m having to adjust to my new life. My new normal. I thought I’d go back to blonde.”
After discussing her new look, NeNe transitioned her explanatory post into a discussion about her recent loss.
“I have a whole group of people that’s coming to my house every day doing different stuff with me,” she continued. “So. Trying to keep my mind off of… you know. Events that recently happened.”
She continued in the string of short videos, telling her fans that she appreciates the support. “Love you guys,” she said while seemingly driving her car. “I’m OK and I’m pushing through.” NeNe then joked: “With a blond wig on!”
NeNe Leakes added that she was having “good days and bad days, but they say it’s normal.” She was choked up as she reflected on her grief and loss. “So, some days I’m up, some days I’m down. Today I felt like going to the salon, so that was good. I normally don’t go to the salon — I usually have people come to my house. Today, I decided to drive to the salon and actually sit in the salon with other women, and that was good to be around other people.”
This week marked two weeks since Gregg Leakes passed away after a long battle with colon cancer. He reportedly died “peacefully” in his home. Gregg’s death was announced in a statement from the family’s publicist and friend Ernest Dukes. He said at the time that “today the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones, and wife Nene Leakes.”
“We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family & allow them to mourn in private during this very, very difficult time,” Dukes continued. Gregg was originally diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer three years ago but went into remission for two years. The cancer returned in June and he died three months later. His wife, NeNe Leakes was traumatized. They had wed in 1997 but were divorced in 2011. They remarried in June 2013 and shared a 22-year-old son, Brentt Leakes.
