Saul Nava, 21, is accused of torturing and killing his 24-year-old girlfriend on Christmas Eve. The California man was charged with mayhem and torture and suspicion of murder. Police continue to investigate.
Nava is being held at the Ventura County Jail and is being held on $2 million bail. According to reports, officers found him at the scene of the crime and arrested him on site.
The killing happened at the 600 Block of McCloud Avenue, Thousand Oaks, Calif, where the couple both lived. Officers were called to the scene at around 1:18 a.m. when they received an emergency call. When they arrived, they found the 24-year-old on the floor, unresponsive.
“They arrived and found a woman who was unresponsive, with serious injuries,” authorities wrote. “Emergency personnel were unsuccessful with lifesaving measures and the woman was pronounced dead. Investigators found evidence that the victim had been tortured prior to her death.”
A motive for the crime is unclear, but police suspect that the murder was an incident of domestic violence. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office released a statement and said that there is no threat to the public. Officers have not released a lot of details about the crime. But evidence suggests the woman was tortured before she died.
Officers searched the property and evidence pertaining to the crime was collected. The girlfriend’s name has not been released.
Saul Nava’s arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 28. It is unknown if he has a lawyer to speak for him.
This is not the only murder that took take place on Christmas Eve this year. In Missouri, a woman is being accused of stabbing her boyfriend with a sword. Brittany Wilson, 32, is also being held on a $2 million bond and according to reports she called the police to report the killing.
Cape Girardeau Police were called to the scene around 11 p.m. Christmas Eve after reports of suspicious activity. They found Wilson in front of her house with blood on her clothes and the murder weapon at her feet.
The 32-year-old told officers that she had stabbed her boyfriend three times, Harrison Stephen Foster, because he had “multiple entities,” in his body for months and she was trying to free him. The woman told police that the couple had taken methamphetamine earlier. It is unclear if the drugs contributed to the young man’s death.
Wilson told police that she believed her boyfriend was harvesting body parts from other individuals. That has not been confirmed.
Officers found Foster in the basement of the Barberry Street home with fresh stab wounds in his body. Wilson was arrested at the scene, and she was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
A mugshot of the woman went viral after her arrest because it showed the 34-year-old smiling after killing her boyfriend. The young woman is set to be arraigned on Monday, Dec. 27.
Police continue to investigate both crimes to understand what happened. Ventura County police continue to gather evidence for the murder of Saul Nava’s girlfriend and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
