Shelley Meyer, wife of Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer, announced that she was leaving Twitter for good following controversy from a scandalous video of her husband that was released this past weekend.

Making the rounds on social media, footage showed Urban Meyer at an Ohio bar, dancing with a 24-year-old woman with a caption from friends that said he “needed a night out.”

Finished with the slander she was receiving online for her husband’s inappropriate behavior, Shelley Meyer said in since-deleted tweet that it would be her last.

“This will be my last post on Twitter,” Shelley Meyer said. “Frankly, I don’t need the hate, vitriol, slander, trash that will @ me (this has never stopped anyway).”

“We all make mistakes-we are all sinners,” Urban’s wife continued. “If you think you aren’t? Then cast the first stone.”

“To my wonderful followers/friends: THANK YOU. For your love, support, friendship, laughs-I will miss this the most. I love you ALL and wish God’s blessings on you. Thank you. #FaithFamilyFootballFlamingos,” Shelley Meyer signed off. “PS I will be deleting right as I post this so I will not see responses. Much love!”

After Thursday night’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Urban Meyer traveled to Columbus, Oh. to reportedly visit his grandchildren when the video of a woman dancing on him as he sat on a barstool was posted online. According to Fox News, a second video was posted shortly after that appeared to show Meyer groping the woman’s bottom.

At a press conference, Urban Meyer said that he has apologized to his wife, Shelley Meyer, his family, and his team, who are all very angry with him. “Oh yeah, they’re upset,” he said.

“I just apologized to the team and the staff, and it was just stupid,” he admitted. “So, I explained everything that happened and just owned it. I should not have myself in that kind of position. The coach should not be a distraction.”

“There was a big group next to our restaurant, and they wanted me to come over and take pictures and I did,” Meyer explained in his apology. He claimed the women were, “trying to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around, and I should have left.”

With an 0-4 start to the Jaguars’ season, many football analysts expected the scandal to result in Urban Meyer’s firing. A college football coach since 1985, Meyer came out of retirement to coach the Jaguars for the 2021-2022 season.

Urban Meyer’s job may now be in jeopardy, however, and apparently so is the 24-year-old woman who danced on him at the bar.

“(She) can’t even go anywhere, it’s ruining her life is what it’s doing,” her mother told USA Today Sports. “I’m worried for her emotional status right now.”

Choosing to remain unnamed so that she can avoid additional vitriol online, the mother said that her daughter’s company, New Horizon Media Group, was currently investigating her about the incident.

“I just pray that [the company] doesn’t fire my daughter because she needs this job,” her mother said. “She just bought a house.”

While Urban is “concerned” that the scandal could continue to affect his tenure as head coach of the Jaguars, many fans question if it’s better to move on past the controversy, or if Urban should be replaced.

For now, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan released a short statement saying that he “addressed the matter with Urban,” and made it clear that he would remain with the team.

“Specifics of our conversation will be held in confidence,” he said, but “what I will say is his conduct last weekend was inexcusable.”

“I appreciate Urban’s remorse, which I believe is sincere,” Shad Khan continued. “Now, he must regain our trust and respect. That will require a personal commitment from Urban to everyone that supports, represents, or plays for our team. I am confident he will deliver.”
