Sidharth Shukla, an acclaimed Bollywood actor and Instagram influencer, died Thursday at 40 years old. The Indian reality TV star reportedly suffered a heart attack, though the cause of death has not been confirmed.
Sidharth was rushed to the hospital Thursday and pronounced dead at the facility, a doctor claimed. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had any known health defects or pre-existing conditions that left him susceptible to heart attacks. It also wasn’t reported what Sidharth Shukla was doing before he was rushed to the hospital.
A senior doctor at the Cooper Hospital in Mumbai told The Hindustan Times that “initial reports indicate that he died of a heart attack.” The doctor did clarify that “we, however, won’t be able to confirm the cause of his death until we complete the post mortem.”
The popular Indian personality had recently posted a tribute to frontline workers, giving thanks to “#TheHeroesWeOwe.” The tribute Instagram post garnered nearly a million likes and is now being filled with comments from shocked fans who were devastated by the actor’s death.
“To all the frontline warriors, a thank you from the heart!” He wrote on the post. “You risk your lives, work for countless hours, and comfort patients who couldn’t be with their families. You truly are the bravest! Being on the frontline surely isn’t easy, but we really appreciate your efforts.”
The post seemed to be a promotion for the Mumbai Dairies, premiering soon on Amazon Prime. According to the Instagram post, the show “is an ode to these superheroes in white capes, the nursing staff, and their countless sacrifices.” The trailers for the show dropped on Aug. 25.
Sidharth Shukla’s last Instagram post was filled Thursday with comments from grieving fans and friends. One user, named “Unseen Friend,” who pegs himself as “an ordinary guy who’s Bollywood’s Favorite Friend,” wrote a tribute message on the post.
“Man this is really heartbreaking,” the user wrote. “Makes me think kya karu itna mehnat karke when you don’t even know if you’ll be able to see tomorrow or not. This is really unfair.”
Underneath that comment was a cacophony of “RIPs” from seemingly inconsolable fans. Sidharth left behind a huge legacy, having risen to popularity in India for acting roles and reality TV appearances.
Sidharth Shukla made his leap into acting in 2008, having appeared in shows like Aahat, Love U Zindagi, and CID. He then transferred to the big leagues, having played a supporting role in the Bollywood film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Karan Johar produced the film.
After his Bollywood debut, Sidharth moved into reality TV. In 2019, he won Season 13 of the Indian competition show Bigg Boss, which is based on the American Big Brother. What we have once loved can never be lost. With a heavy heart and moist eyes, we bid goodbye, You’ll be a part of us, always, forever, and more. Sid, you’ll be missed.”
Well-known actress, Kiara Advani wrote that Sidharth’s death “is heartbreaking. May your soul RIP. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
