If you’re not watching the gritty HBO series Succession then you’re truly missing out. The TV drama is coming back for Season 3 in October 2021, and fans can’t wait to see Logan Roy and his crazy family again.
When is Succession Coming Back?
HBO announced that Season 3 of the show will premiere sometime in October 2021. Fans were thrilled with the new trailer that showed Logan Roy’s children getting ready to turn against their father.
Fans had to wait two years after the ending of Season 2 for the Season 3 announcement. Covid-19 is to blame for the delays. Filming wasn’t able to begin until Fall 2020 in New York City.
Sarah Snook, who plays Logan Roy’s only daughter Shiv Roy, said that she struggled with the long break between seasons, and it caused her to lose touch with her character. “Because we had such a gap between [seasons] two and three, and also because there was more of a public knowledge of the show, people had put up versions [online] of their own Shiv or parodies. It felt like I’m doing an impersonation of a person who plays Shiv who turns out to be me,” Snook said. “I was like, ‘wait, I’m the person. I know.”
The actress has been working on her understanding of Shiv during the break and is ready to show fans how tough Shiv Roy really is.
Who Will be in the Cast in Season 3?
Fans should get ready for a long list of new cast members this season. HBO announced that they will be bringing in some new faces, including Hope Davis and Alexander Skarsgård. Skarsgård will play Lukas Matsson, a successful tech founder and CEO who will be confrontational with the family. Davis will play Sandi Furness, the daughter of Logan Roy’s longtime rival. Fans are hoping that the addition of Davis’ character will add some extra drama and tension to the jam-packed show.
The show is also bringing in Oscar winner Adrien Brody, who will be playing the dashing and dangerous Josh Aaronson. According to sources, this billionaire will be pivotal in the battle over Waystar RoCo.
What Will Happen in Season 3?
Season 2 ended with a shocking reveal. At the last minute, golden son Kendall Roy betrayed his father and called him a liar and a bully. The attack came after the son learned that he was scheduled to take the fall for all the family’s mistakes.
According to the writers, Season 3 is going to pick up just after the bombshell and the whole season will be a civil war between family members. Unfortunately, this season will only have eight episodes instead of the normal ten.
Brian Cox was the first to learn about what happens in Season 3 and he was shocked by the plan. “I nearly fell off my chair because [series creator Jesse Armstrong] never tells you about the next series,” Cox said. “We never knew from episode to episode what was going to happen. “It’s jolly thrilling. That’s all I can say.”
One thing that won’t happen in Season 3 will be the Covid-19 pandemic. Many TV shows have decided to talk about the pandemic in their current seasons and have their characters be affected by it. Succession won’t be one of them. The show’s creators argued that the characters were too wealthy to be affected by the pandemic.
Will Succession End this Season?
Writers have said that there will be a fourth season of Succession, but they aren’t sure if they’ll continue with the show after that. Georgia Pritchett, a writer and executive producer for the series, said that at maximum, Succession will last for five seasons.
While fans may be disappointed that their favorite show won’t last forever they should know that the writers have a good ending in mind for this HBO drama.
