Police found Tara Strozier dead near Rock Island in LeFlore County last week. Her body was weighed down in an Oklahoma pond, according to police. The tragic recovery comes ten days after the mother was reported missing in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation released a statement on Facebook announcing the gruesome discovery on July 29. Authorities said that 40-year-old Tara Strozier went missing out of Fort Smith on July 19. The news release said that “Strozier was last known to be driving a black Volkswagen Jetta with Florida license plates,” and that she was “possibly last seen in the Cameron, Oklahoma area.”
The LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate her disappearance and alleged murder. Authorities are still trying to understand what happened to Strozier before she was weighed down in the Oklahoma pond.
Police found what they believe to be Tara Strozier’s black Volkswagen Jetta abandoned in a private drive in Cameron. The discovery on July 24 led authorities to believe that foul play was involved in Strozier’s disappearance. There was no sign of Strozier in the vehicle. Two days after the car was discovered, the Leflore County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from OSBI, according to the news release.
The investigation revealed that Strozier may have been tortured “at an unoccupied mobile home off Neblett Ridge Road in Cameron,” according to authorities. Police then believe Tara Strozier was murdered by the Oklahoma pond and tossed inside. There were three suspects identified in connection to the murder. Authorities revealed their names to the public in a news release on Facebook.
Police arrested Alex Nathaniel Davis, 30, Austin Johnson, 23, and Kaelin Hutchinson 24, on July 29. The three suspects were “booked into the LeFlore County Detention Center,” according to the news release.
Alex Nathaniel Davis was charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping. Austin Johnson is facing a first-degree murder charge and Kaelin Hutchinson has been charged with obstruction of an officer. Investigators revealed that Davis admitted to killing Tara Strozier on July 29. Davis said that Johnson was present during the killing and that they later threw her into the pond near Rock Island.
Reports claim that Alex Davis and Austin Johnson are being held in the LeFlore County jail without bail. They are scheduled to appear in court on August 6. Kaelin Hutchinson’s bond was set at $250,000 on Friday. He has not entered a plea deal, according to People. It has not been revealed who will be representing the three suspects in court.
According to police, Strozier was a mother of three and a resident of Fort Smith, Ark. It wasn’t revealed how old her children were, but authorities said that her family was very worried when she wasn’t responding to their calls.
