Are Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn engaged after five years of dating? Engagement rumors have been swirling since January. While the buzz hasn’t been confirmed by the couple, the rumors have divided Taylor Nation. Here’s everything you need to know about their relationship.

On Feb. 17, Life and Style announced that Taylor and Joe had gotten engaged. The magazine said that the news was confirmed by multiple sources, but the story hasn’t been picked up by other major news sites or confirmed by the happy couple. So, what’s true, and what’s false?

The engagement rumors first started circulating back in January, when the couple took a three-day trip to Joe’s hometown of Cornwall. A source close to the couple described the vacation as “particularly special,” and said, “Taylor’s a superstar and obviously very wealthy, so she can travel almost anywhere she wants at any time. But to go that far just for a few days clearly meant a lot to them. It feels like things are getting more serious and people think an engagement could be on the cards. That could explain such a long journey to a specific place,” they added.

Radar Online then reported on Feb. 8 that Taylor Swift was spotted for the first time in three months and reportedly hid her left hand the whole time while she was out in public. The news site spotted Taylor leaving her close friend Jack Antonoff’s studio in New York City.

While the engagement rumors could be false, many Taylor Swift fans are begging for the singer to confirm or deny the rumors. One fan said, “@taylorswift13 hello ARE YOU ENGAGED?! The public needs to know. And by public, I mean me.” Others have pointed out that this is not the first time that engagement rumors have been attached to Taylor and Joe.

Another fan said, “I would like to hear Taylor swift and Taylor swift alone to weight in on the “Taylor swift engagement rumors” before I actually believe anything.”

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have been dating for five years and the singer has kept this relationship very private. They reportedly bonded over their shared love of music. During her 2020 Grammy speech for Folklore winning Album of the Year, Taylor said that Joe is the “first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine.”

Fans can’t wait to know if she’s engaged. But they are also happy that Taylor seems content in her relationship. The singer has a long history of bad breakups and usually uses her relationship drama as inspiration for her songs.

One fan wrote, “If the Taylor Swift engagement rumours are to believed, I want to say to every woman out there who has had a complicated dating history, “There’s HOPE for all of us!!” Taylor Swift is a living proof of just that. There’s a reason why she was meant to chronicle all her experiences.”

Some of the singer’s past boyfriends include Harry Styles, Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Tom Hiddleston, and Taylor Lautner.

Most recently, Taylor’s past relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal has made the news. While Taylor never confirmed or denied that her song “All Too Well” was inspired by the actor, a recent 10-minute version has fans bashing Gyllenhaal for his awful behavior during the relationship, including gaslighting her.

The actor responded to the new version of the song and said that he doesn’t blame Taylor for her feelings. He spoke to Esquire magazine and said, “It has nothing to do with me. It’s about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t begrudge anyone that.”

He added, “At some point, I think it’s important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one’s name.” Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly turned off his Instagram comments after the song came out.
