Is Tori Spelling in the middle of a nasty divorce battle? The Beverly Hills, 90210 star was spotted on Tuesday, angrily shouting into her cellphone while leaving an attorney’s office and clutching a notepad with the words “custody,” “support” and “assets” scrawled out, according to a report from PageSix.
The episode follows months of speculation that Tori and husband Dean McDermott are headed toward a split. Just last month, Dean slammed rumors that he and Tori were on the outs in an episode of the Feminine Warrior podcast.
“It’s just weird that people need to know,” he said to the show’s hosts. “‘What’s going on with Tori and Dean? She’s not wearing her ring.’ Why do you need to know that? How is that going to affect your day?”
That outburst followed an incident in March, when Tori was spotted without her wedding ring while out with her and Dean’s five children. Three months later, she told radio host Jeff Lewis that she and Dean were sleeping in separate rooms.
Some fans began to speculate that the marriage was on the rocks last December, when Dean was left off the family Christmas card.
Years of Marriage Woes
Longtime fans of Tori Spelling will recall the scandal that rocked her marriage in 2013, when it was revealed that Dean had an extramarital affair while away in his native Canada.
To cope with the breach of trust, Tori starred in a Lifetime series called True Tori, a reality show that documented the couple’s marriage. Dean hit an emotional breaking point on the show.
“I just thought, ‘This is it. You can’t get out of this. I blew it. Everything great in my life, I s–t on.’ I just thought, ‘Tori deserves me to die,’” he said in an April, 2014 episode of True Tori, later receiving treatment for his emotional issues.
Not long after, Tori Spelling made waves when it was revealed that she owed around $39,000 in unpaid credit card bills. The money issues no doubt added pressure on the couple’s relationship, but at that time, the pair seemed to have recovered from Dean’s infidelity.
In 2017, Tori and Dean announced the arrival of their fifth child, a son named Beau. Tori would later call Beau’s addition to the family “the rebirth of [her] marriage.”
“We know how to do it differently now,” she told reporters that year. “For so many years, we kind of didn’t know how to find time for ourselves, it was all about the kids, because we did start having kids right away.”
But the stability didn’t last. In 2018, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a verbal domestic dispute at the couple’s house, though it was officially never confirmed that the spat was between Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott.
In 2020, around the time that the couple was celebrating their 14th anniversary, Tori reportedly had a large sum of money seized directly from her bank accounts, owing again to her unpaid credit card debt.
By December, possibly because of her financial woes, Tori and Dean’s marriage was back on the rocks with the Christmas card incident.
The notes from her meeting with an attorney from Tuesday — “custody,” “support” and “assets” — certainly sound like the things you’d discuss with your lawyer during a divorce. The couple’s rocky history and troubled finances mean that a nasty battle for custody and a settlement may be in store.
Is Tori Spelling getting a divorce? It certainly seems like it. But then again, it’s seemed that way before.
