Adalia Rose Williams, a YouTuber who touched the lives of millions while inspiring them to embrace themselves, passed away at the age of 15. Williams died after a long battle with a rare genetic disease called Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome.
According to her family, the young girl died on Jan. 11. They posted a sweet message to her on Facebook after her passing. They said, “Adalia Rose Williams was set free from this world. She came into it quietly and left quietly, but her life was far from it.”
They added, “she touched MILLIONS of people and left the biggest imprint in everyone that knew her. She is no longer in pain and is now dancing away to all the music she loves. I really wish this wasn’t our reality but unfortunately it is. We want to say thank you to everyone that loved and supported her. Thank you to all her doctors and nurses that worked for YEARS to keep her healthy. The family would now like to mourn this huge loss in private.”
Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, also known as Progeria and “Benjamin Button Syndrome,” is a rare condition that causes the body to age drastically. Williams was diagnosed with the condition at 3 months old and had already surpassed the life expectancy for someone with her condition, which is 13 years old.
Progeria effects roughly 500 people in the world. Doctors believe it is caused by a mutation of the LMNA gene, which makes the Lamin A protein that keeps a cell’s nucleus together. Symptoms of Benjamin Button syndrome include, stiff joints, dwarfism, loss of hair, high-pitched voice, visible veins, and lack of body fat and muscle.
Adalia Rose Williams’ death comes just 2 months after the 15-year-old announced that she lost her hearing because of her condition.
Natalia Pallante, Williams’ mom, said, “She was diagnosed at maybe like three months old. That’s when the real changes started happening. She started losing her hair and her little veins started showing up more and her skin started thinning out a lot more. I was a single mum at the time, so when I got the diagnosis, I was alone. It was just her and I and I honestly felt lost.”
Despite her condition, Adalia Rose Williams never let her health get in the way of what she wanted. The 15-year-old famously called herself a diva and was known for posting amazing videos on YouTube. Williams started vlogging in 2012 and quickly developed a devoted following. She had over 2.9 million followers on the video platform, along with 385K on Instagram.
