Stephen Amell was removed from a Delta flight after a huge argument with his wife, Cassandra Jean Amell. Flight attendants asked the Arrow star to calm down and lower his voice several times before air marshals escorted him off the plane.
Stephen Amell and Cassandra Jean were on their way from Austin to Los Angeles after attending the ATX Television Festival over the weekend. Reports claim that Stephen was drunk and berating his wife, though the nature and context of the argument are unknown. While Stephen screamed at Cassandra, flight attendants requested that he lower his voice, but Stephen didn’t stop.
It was then that an air marshal and three flight attendants told him to leave, though some reports claim that Stephen was “forcibly” removed. Despite the eight-minute delay, Cassandra and her friends remained on the plane and arrived in L.A. ahead of schedule.
In a statement, a Delta spokesperson said that “Delta flight 966 on June 21 took a brief, eight-minute departure delay after an unruly customer was deplaned from the aircraft prior to departure in Austin. The flight arrived ahead of schedule at Los Angeles International Airport.”
Delta refused to name the individual or reveal more details about what happened, though Stephen Amell offered his side of the story on Twitter. The Heels star posted on the social media platform that “my wife and I got into an argument Monday afternoon on a Delta flight from Austin to LA. I was asked to lower my voice and I did. Approximately 10 minutes later I was asked to leave the flight.”
Stephen says that he exited the plane, “immediately,” and “was not forcibly removed.” He then got onto another flight a couple of hours later and returned home.
In a separate tweet, Stephen explained that “I rebooked myself on a Southwest flight 2 hours later and traveled home without any further issue.” He continued, saying that “I let my emotions get the better of me, end of story. Must be a slow news cycle.”
Dedicated Twitter followers were quick to defend Stephen Amell’s actions. One said that “we’re all human,” while another warned that “people should mind their own business.” The actor, who’s known for playing the lead superhero in the CW universe, is popular on social media for his apparent family values.
Stephen, who shares 7-year-old daughter Maverick Alexandra Jean Amell with Cassandra, posts pictures weekly of his fun excursions with his family. The Arrow star is rarely in headlines and usually keeps to himself, despite his star power.
In the fall, Stephen Amell contracted Covid-19. Though he claimed he has no idea where he contracted the virus, sources claimed that he threw a birthday party for his wife around the time he tested positive for Covid-19. Stephen left that part out of his Coronavirus announcement.
It’s still unclear whether Stephen contracted Covid-19 from the party, or if he was positive while hosting the birthday bash. Either way, many were quick to judge the star for throwing a party during a global pandemic.
“Not everyone has the luxury of taking two weeks off,” he said at the time. “In fact, most people don’t. We are in the midst of a global pandemic and times are tough for a lot of people.” Many fans were disappointed by his sentiment after he allegedly put people in harm’s way by hosting a birthday party for his wife.
