TRUMP ENDORSEMENTS BOLSTERED TEXAS HOUSE RACES

Donald Trump issued a series of endorsements this week for Republican congressmen seeking reelection, including Lance Gooden, Troy Nehls and Randy Weber. It is unclear how much the Trump endorsements will affect their campaigns, but The Hill reported that all three congressmen voted against certifying Joe Biden’s electoral votes in the 2020 Presidential election.

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump are also currently fighting a subpoena issued by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who ordered Trump and his two children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., to testify under oath about “fraudulent or misleading” business practices. According to the investigation, the Trump family business misled asset evaluations and named items such as golf carts and skyscrapers to gain tax benefits and loans.

BIDEN ORDERED U.S. EMBASSY TO EVACUATE UKRAINE

President Joe Biden ordered the evacuation of embassy members in Kyiv this week, as tensions between Russia and Ukraine reached new highs. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to deescalate conflict and prevent a war.

The President stated that the United States would “respond decisively and impose swift and severe costs” if Russia invaded Ukraine, warning President Vladimir Putin that he should not intervene. The U.S. has invested millions of dollars in Ukrainian military aid. America treats the Ukraine as a global outpost to keep an eye on Russia. According to Biden, government intelligence claims that there is “every indication” that Russia will invade.

CHRIS CUOMO ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was allegedly fired from the news network after senior executives learned of allegations of sexual assault in 2011. An unnamed ABC temp worker claimed in a report sent to CNN top brass that Cuomo agreed to help her find permanent employment but then assaulted her in his office after she denied his aggressive advances.

Chris Cuomo was originally suspended for his connection to former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s scandal. But CNN executives fired the news anchor just a few days later. Chris Cuomo has denied the incident and plans to sue the news network for dropping him without due process.

PRINCE ANDREW SETTLED SEX ABUSE LAWSUIT

Prince Andrew agreed to settle with Virginia Giuffre in a civil court lawsuit. Prince Charles’ brother was accused of sex abuse facilitated by the late, convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. It is unknown how much the British royal agreed to settle for, but many British tabloids cited an agreement of around $13-16 million.

Giuffre alleged that she was trafficked by Epstein and forced to perform sex acts on his high-profile friends, including Prince Andrew, both on his private island and in his New York mansion. She also claimed that she was underage at the time. Last month, the Queen stripped Prince Andrew of all his royal titles and use of title “his highness.”

BOB SAGET’S FAMILY MOVED TO BLOCK RELEASE OF RECORDS

The mystery of Bob Saget’s sudden passing deepened this week as his family filed a lawsuit to block the public release of Saget’s death records. Citing emotional damage, the comedian’s family claimed that he deserved the privacy, while investigators stated that transparency with the public was more important.

Medical examiners ruled out foul play but concluded that the Full House actor suffered from trauma to the back of his head. It is unknown how he hit himself or if the blow led to his death, but the comedian was found unresponsive, lying on his hotel bed. Authorities stated that the investigation will likely go on for six to eight weeks.

LA RAMS HAD MUCH TO CELEBRATE

Quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams defeated Joe Burrows and the Cincinnati Bengals to become Super Bowl champions this past Sunday, winning 23-20. Stafford threw three touchdowns in the game, with two end zone catches by Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp.

After the emotional game, LA Rams safety Taylor Rapp proposed to his longtime girlfriend Dani Johnson, getting engaged as they celebrated on the field. Wide receiver Van Jefferson also had much to celebrate. His wife Samaria went into labor during the game! The adorable couple welcomed a baby boy, who joined his big sister, Bella.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC COULD MISS WIMBLEDON

Tennis pro Novak Djokovic said he would be willing to miss more tournaments in 2022 due to vaccination mandates, despite the effect that it would have on his career. After a messy situation in Australia, the world No. 1 athlete was deported and barred from competition. Rival tennis player Rafael Nadal won in his absence, taking the record for most Grand Slam single’s titles.

Stating that he has always “supported the freedom to choose what you put in your body,” the unvaccinated athlete called missing tournaments “the price that I’m willing to pay.” The move will likely be highly detrimental to his career as he falls in the rankings, especially as he was previously playing some of the best tennis of his career.

OLYMPIC FAVORITES SHIFFRIN AND VALIEVA FAILED TO MEDAL

26-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin, the fan-favorite American alpine skier, failed to medal at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing after recording her third “did not finish” placement on Thursday. The former gold-medal winner crashed earlier in the competition during the slalom event, dashing her hopes of placing on the podium.

After a Russian doping scandal, 15-year-old figure skater Kamila Valieva also did not place, coming in fourth after she fell on the ice multiple times. After failing a drug test, many believed she would not be allowed to compete. She was allowed to compete, but the results were less than exemplary.

Other favorited athletes have won gold for the U.S. at the 2022 Olympic Games, however, including figure skater Nathan Chen and snowboarders Lindsey Jacobellis and Chloe Kim. Go team USA!
